Martín Zubimendi

So in 9-12 months time... a player who has scored 8 senior goals in his career (with none for Spain at any level) and about 6 assists, is better than the legends listed above?

You should probably wipe the dust off your short memory. The above options will still be ahead of him.

Regardless, he wouldn't play if Rodri is in the team as he's also a CDM. When have we played with two CDMs ever?
A few years ago we would never have played without a striker and left back but we have so you never know .

By the time Rodri comes back KDB will be 34 and might not even be here. Gundo will be close to 35 and absolutely not a better option than Zubimendi. Kova and Bernardo will both be 31 and heading into their last contracted years if they are even still here. What are you on about? Ya shouldn't be so aggressive if you're making a dusty point...just sayin'...

You have a very odd view about how we go about our squad building. City have never made the type of wholesale changes that youre talking about and we won't this summer either.
City's transfer business is never based by the position of the Sun.

Do I? What view is that? Maybe not getting caught with a handful of 30 something mid fielders on the decline all at once? Yes, very odd...
BTW, I'm looking for the post where I said anything about making wholesale changes?...

I'll trust my own opinion every day of the week and twice on Sunday when it comes to football. You believe whatever you want...
We need young legs in the midfield whether it be Zubimendi, Ricci, Wharton, Varela...this isn't an over 30 "legends" league...
Well that's the argument and it does matter who it is. Are those players just flavour of the month or ready to play in the best side in the world?

Young legs or not, they have to be better (or have potential to be better) than what's already in the squad.

Matheus Nunes is younger and has got energy. He's in Portugal's squad.

Would you pick him over any of our current crop? My point is that Zubimendi is not starting alongside Rodri instead of an established playmaker. He can fill in for him sure.

I'd prefer 2 playmakers in front of one DM as well. I think we're debating two different things. I'm not saying we should play with 2 DMs. I'm saying Zubimendi could play at times with Rodri as opposed to instead of him.
As far as any of the 4 players I've named being good enough for City IMO they are...

preparing the squad for that Amorim 343 Diamond. :)

Yes, it's the typical FM player disease. You aren't judging on performances, you're judging entirely on age. They're approaching or over 30 therefore bin them.

I think he more means regarding making things fresh and not be stagnant

They're not saying our players over 30 are rubbish. We've seen it this season where we get cut through easily on transitions because age has caught up to some of our players. They no longer have the legs over a longer distance to keep up with younger opponents. Adding Zubimendi would drastically improve our midfield for dealing with transitions.

- We have an old midfield we should grab this guy
- wonder if he'll fit like this
- what you leaving the old guys out for?

this thread. lol

FM player? I've been involved in formal player identification for the better part of 25 years. Why are you putting words in my mouth? To spin your narrative? Are you a member of the mainstream media by any chance?

It's just the flavour of the month opinion that we lack legs in midfield. In April, nobody will remember this idea.

Define "involved in formal player ID"

We’ve always been susceptible to transitions - inevitably I suppose given how much of the possession we have - but we do looks much less mobile in midfield this season and therefore more vulnerable.

De Bruyne, Bernardo and Gundogan - who have all notably dropped off physically- will all need replacing over the next year or 18 months, and Rodri’s workload will also need to be managed when he first returns.

As I see it, we have now choice but to sign a couple of top class midfielders next summer in addition to anyone we sign in January.

Today's the day. Go on, trust your opinion twice, at least until this time next week.

Ya know what's funny? If you went about trying to make a living betting against my opinions and projections you'd be objectively broke.
If you'd like to try your luck we can arrange that in private. In other words, I'm willing to put my money on the table. Are you?
