As I understand it, the students coming here on visas pay for their education and in effect help subsidise the cost of HE for UK students. I presume this is why successive governments have allowed/encouraged them. In effect, the country makes a profit out of them. The universities are in such a dire financial state that the whole shebang might collapse without the foreign students.

Some do overstay their visas, but no one can be arsed doing anything about that as it involves work for the authorities. As this country chooses not to have ID cards, it makes it very difficult to police who has and hasn't a right to be here. Having bad English might imply a person has no right to be here, but it doesn't prove it. (Many natives have bad English, especially bad written English.)

It's like trying to enforce traffic laws without vehicle number plates or registration, but no one can be bothered to do anything about it. It's easier just to moan and blame foreigners or the EU.

The problem isnt the boats (although they don’t help) the problem is the authorised immigration 700k last year of which only a third was actually work visas! Lots are educational or social workers, the educational ones are allowed bring dependants over an that’s the problem, I’m not been funny but if you come to go to university then it should be you only and not X amount of family. The universities rely on lots of foreign students but they shouldn’t be bringing hangers on with them. Once they finish their education then unless they get a job cheerio.

I think you mean workers in health and social care. Also isn't that a type of work visa?

People have this misperception of the people bringing in their family. The people bringing in their family are mature students doing PHD etc brining in wife’s and kids not parents aunties uncles etc. Also they’re not a burden. Inc fact they prop up the university and will pay visa and NHS charges for them and there dependents

The inheritance tax on farms is perfectly reasonable and will only have any real effect on the largest farms, many of them have used part of their land to gift a site for their offspring to build on, often equivalent to a £50,000+ tax free gift.
I'm not happy with everything this government have done so far, but they are certainly starting to fix 14 years of corruption and incompetence.

Why are you still comparing the riots with how the twats at the airport were dealt with? The airport incident was dealt with in the appropriate methodical way like all other similar incidents. It’s obvious to anyone that the riots were a special case due to the potential for the rioting to get out of control, and as soon as people started to be caught and immediately punished (importantly after pleading guilty), it all died down very quickly. The punishments were within the sentencing guidelines for such offences. The only thing different was the speed of it and that was for a very good reason.

I don’t give a shit that Starmer is pissing off loads of people. It was bound to happen with three quarters of the media being controlled by right wing billionaires influencing opinion. He needs to crack on and sort the country out so that by the time of the next election we’re in a better place.
