PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

Sheffield Hallam and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.
In his defence I have to say that Rob Wilson was very helpful when Stuart Brennan and I went to him over Stuart's article on my research into UEFA changing the Annex XI guidelines, which meant we had to negotiate a settlement in 2014.

He confirmed the calculations appeared to be correct.

I won't derail the thread by discussing this in detail. I should also add that it's important for law firms to have people who are able to bring in clients, which often results from force of personality on the part of people who sometimes aren't necessarily the best lawyers in technical terms. They keep the rest of us busy and deserve to be rewarded appropriately.

But subject to that rider, your comment does strike a chord with me. I've definitely seen in my time people propelled by a talent for self-promotion to heights that a demonstrable lack of ability ought to dictate they shouldn't reach.
Jaden Sancho likes this.

I think that is known as the 'Peter principle' (hope I've used the correct spelling ) where people are promoted above their level of competence or to their level of incompetence. I came across a few in my career. I never blamed them, I tended to think the fault lay with the people who promoted them.

Sorry to derail the thread. I won't write on this subject again

I worked at a place where a young lad was promoted to head of the department within 2 years. He had barely any experience and wasn’t exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer either. He also happened to be the best looking in the department according to many. Amazing how many doors that can open.

Over promotion happens in every sphere of business. I worked once for a CEO who was pig thick, but good at self promo.

Consultants from the big practices, who couldn't run a bath, often end up in positions beyond their capabilities ......and then appoint their old consultant firm to advise them.

My back is itching !!

Jesus Christ! Where even to start with this heap of shit? I've just looked up Professor Rob Wilson's own description of his career on his university's website. As someone who, in the last few years, has been teaching at a university as a sideline to my main career, I see much that's admirable and worthy in that pedagogical environment. Certainly, I'm far from hostile to academia and I hope that no one forms an impression to the contrary.

On the other hand, I have observed that it's an environment that does from time to time allow utter charlatans to flourish, and I'd posit that this **** betrays every sign of being one of them. He seems to me to be a contemptible rogue who exhibits almost zero real-world knowledge in any aspect of his field of purported expertise, though as he sells himself as a specialist in finance, I'll leave comments on his skills that area to posters more qualified in it than I am.

But as he's commenting above on a matter of law, I am qualified to assess his aptitude in that sphere. My considered view is that he's legally illiterate. It's like asking Jack Duckworth to explain the theory of relativity, but it's worse than that. What's damaging is that he has a veneer of credibility that might induce people into thinking he's worth listening to, and such a layperson, in expecting enlightenment from his words, will be grievously misled.
Great post. Again.

This idiot first came to my attention in 2018 when he had a prominent piece in the Der Spiegel leaks. Since then I've seen him used for his "expert" opinion on quite a few occassions by our detractors such as the likes of Delaney in print and on various podcasts. So, this latest shit isn't a one-off!

Does anybody really think that if we are found not guilty of most or all these charges, it will all be over? No way, the bastards who brought these charges will appeal and keep bleating on about the hearing being a whitewash. Even if we get severe sanctions, the club will be tainted for years to come. The news this week that Abramovich was alleged to have done some dodgy tax evasion won’t affect Chelsea, because they now have an American owner so that’s fine and dandy. Maybe time to approach Mr Trump to buy the club. Makes me want to throw up.

Believe me, being really good looking can be a burden
At times i wish I was just average

I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
