Kicking someone down on the deck is a shitbag thing to do.....Spurs gave us a right hiding in the side streets when we beat them 5 - 0 once (70's) . They used to have right firm.

But I saw plenty of Spurs lads doing it to on City lads who were on the road.

There weren’t any Queensberry Rules that day.

It was a free for all, with both sets of lads piling in and fighting each other.

Yeah mate seen it all back in the day...........stabbings, slashings, muggings you name it ...all went on.

It’s mad when you think about what went on then. In fact, it’s surreal, compared to now, and how football has changed, and how football is being policed now compared to then.

Crazy times. But if you were a hooligan, it was a blast, even though you knew the possible consequences.

I was cutting through the back streets one sunny match day to get to Claremont Road, and I walked slap bang into a rowdy bunch of Middlesboro yobs who had just trashed the Clarence Pub on Wilmslow Road ... there was about 40 of the rough lookin' fkers, 15 yards or so, coming right towards of me .... I didn't know whether to start praying, carry on walking, or do a runner back in the direction i'd come from, but it was a really nerve wracking situation, and especially as a few of them were eyeing me up!

Luckily for me someone had alerted the cops to their threatening presence outside the nearby pub, and four vanloads of police came hurtling down the street, and jumped out of the vans to encircle the Boro yobs ..... i counted my blessings, and took the opportunity to scarper off down the nearest alleyway amidst all the commotion!!

Had that myself in town one night after we had played at home at the rags had just got back to Piccadilly from their away match.About 20 of them and i didn’t have any colours on apart from my little city badge on my jacket.I thought I am going to get proper leathered here now.You just know it. Next thing about 30 City lads turned up obviously all planned and off it went and me I managed to get my bus back to Middleton :)

Plenty of our lot did kick boxing at the martial arts centre on Deansgate training with the likes of Lance Lewis and Ronnie Green.......ran by the Dore brothers from Moss Side.

We even had our own boxing ring funnily enough.


If you think a lot did it just for a scrap you're totally clueless and obviously weren't there.

The camaraderie? The togetherness?

Of course it was because you liked a scrap. And the togetherness that it brought with your mates.

I wasnt involved no. But therenis a million thesis and writings out there to know why the movement took place, and no i dont mean written by some aging old hooly who claims 3 of them took 150

People were seriously injured and targeted by cunts. Some away games there were less than 200 of us in total (QPR away one Tuesday night when Chelsea targeted us)

The thing I will agree with is eventually, after many fights, the adrenaline rush gets addictive.

If you're unlucky you can have serious life changing injuries, hooligan or not. Shithouses like Utd, Millwall or Stockport etc loved attacking lesser numbers.

The 70's was a totally different era with no CCTV , mobile phones and dicks filming or police who gave a shit.

I accept that it was a blast for some people, and that others on occasion acted nobly in defence of non-participants, in the main all I saw was gangs of pissed lads charging / retreating, and if anyone thinks City's 'crews' didn't contain as many dickheads, bullies and shitehouses as other teams, then they are sadly mistaken.

There was a lot of reprisal attacks at Maine Road. So I've been told.

I usually got on the bus back to Gorton in the 70's.

Think the nearest I got to a good hiding at a football match was Liverpool away 1985 when Barry Siddall was in net ! Me and my mate got separated from the city fans coming out after the game trouble was we both had flares on lanky hair and the obligatory pringle jumper we stood out like a sore thumb but got away with it practicing our scouse accents while the discussion was about Stanley wtf lol !

I remember that mob all bowled up Lloyd St and onto Claremont Rd where we were stood outside Soccer World.
Luckily for us we were only young so didn’t get a slap.

As well as the 2 Clubs 30k allocation for the Replay 30,000 Tickets were Sold at Wembley on the Sunday Morning after the first match -unsurprisingly 99.99% went to Spurs Fans (me and my Bootneck mate account for the other 2) -thus the No of Spurs Nobheads went through the roof for the Replay (whereas on the Saturday they had been OK basically)

But, an amazing memory, not just for the game but the overall 'ambiance'.

We were hours back in the queue and a couple of compete numtby Spurs Fans came up to us (cos we had City gear on) who offered to sell us their Tickets they’d just bought because they’d found out they were in the City End and we snapped their hands off and walked away pronto -Job done!
