Russian invasion of Ukraine


Ukraine greatly values its relations with Türkiye, the mutual understanding we share, and the support we receive in this extraordinary time of war. We are grateful for the warm welcome, hospitality and absolutely constructive approach in our negotiations.

Today, together with President of Türkiye @RTErdogan, we discussed in detail the global processes that could contribute to ending Russia's war against Ukraine, including the importance of joint efforts to ensure security guarantees for Ukraine.

We also talked about our bilateral relations, economic issues, cooperation between our societies in education, various projects, food security, and work on the return of our prisoners held by Russia.

We are grateful to Türkiye for all the support to our country and people, for its principled stance on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state

"For the first time since 1945, war could come to European soil, surrounding us," Bayrou added.

According to him, "we are in the context of the 1930s, when icebergs are approaching us, and the Paris meeting at the Elysee Palace could not stop them."

"We are witnessing an unthinkable alliance between Putin and Trump, which is marginalizing Europe on its own soil," the French Prime Minister concluded.
 
He also calls out “a lot of disinformation coming from Russia,” as he says that these figures seem to be shared with the US.

“Unfortunately, President Trump, with all due respect for him as the leader of a nation that we respect greatly … is living in this disinformation bubble,” he says.

How are russia one of the "two most powerful countries on earth" ? I'd be surprised if they were in the top 100, unless of course you mean because they have nukes (is there any proof these would still work) ?

As a country they're currently a basket case, if you look at their population demograph, it has a huge hole in it in their male population between 16 and 40, with a large pensioner age population, who either don't, or soon won't, contribute anything.

Their health service is probably shite, I haven't looked, but I bet they die on average 10 years before we do.

Their economy is absolutely fucked, and will take decades to recover.

The Russians are offering up joint projects in the arctic, the prospect of US oil majors investing preferentially in Russian oil extraction and refineries and a host of other opportunities- without offering a single concession on Ukraine.

They met before the formal talks and during them this has been their primary focus- in effect disconnecting the US from any reason to defend Ukraine or the west because its own profits would be at risk in a future conflict. They think profit motivates 47 and his backers more than anything else. It’s hard to disagree.

MASSIVE AID PACKAGE
S EU is looking at a massive aid package of $700 billion - to provide Ukraine with what it needs to win (at last) and boost western defence manufacturing. It would also increase employment opportunities as places like Germany face job losses in their automobile industries - 200,000 new jobs in Germany alone.
The Munich conference this past weekend was the wake up call that on top of last years warning, over what was to come, finally pushed even the reluctant nations over the edge into doing something.
The aim
In 2025 is to produce 2 million 155mm shells on top of the 1.8
Million from the Czech Initiative as industry is now producing greater volumes. German production has gone from zero to 50,000 per month and is increasing rapidly as just one example.
The aim this time is to win not just prevent defeat. Why it’s taken three years to get here is beyond me, but get here we have.

As to why it has taken three years to get here, it is because Biden did just enough to keep Europe happy. Remove that comfort blanket then Europe is forced to react given the US is now inimical to Europe and the UK’s interests.

EU/Europe tends only to get its arse in gear when faced with a real and obvious threat. Trump has now revealed that threat and the fiction of mutual interests. Europe including the UK need to interact with the US based on this new reality.

Europe has the economic and military heft to safeguard its own interests and security. Trump has now given Europe the incentive to find the political will to do so.
 
My worry, and I'm glad to be shot to pieces on this is;
Russia continue to refuse Nato or European peace keepers.
Trump steps in as says the only way forward is American troops.
Zelensky is forced to accept this.
Once in place America demand elections and the FSR activate their sleepers. With American help the Russians rig the election and a putin puppet is installed.
Within a year he agrees for the sake of peace, Ukraine gives up all the occupied land.
America withdraw and within another 12 months the puppet holds another (rigged) election with the voters having a choice. Become part of Russia or remain free.
To the total suprise of nobody 97% state they want to he part of Russia.
Russia then supplies cheap precious metals to America.
Please someone tell me I'm wrong.

Trump could have easily achieved the same without siding with Putin. I would suggest it is Trump and not the US but why does EU "need to" interact with him?
