That's amazing Gaz! What was your overall strategy for mega mileage like that? And how are you feeling?
Thanks mate, strategy wise the plan was to go as slow as possible, but pacing is far from my strong point and as usual I went out too quick, it's a tricky one as after the first 26.2 I was into uncharted territory, I actually felt great up until 32 miles but after that it was mind over matter all the way, I supposed it helped that the route went through a few iffy areas in Liverpool and I didn't fancy stopping!!
I'm actually feeling not too bad, but we will see if that is the same tomorrow and if I make parkrun!!!

Manchester to Liverpool 50 mile ultra today, finished in 7hrs 51, 49th overall 5th in age category.
A wee bit happy with that!! Could have been a bit faster but my cunning plan to have a 15 min break and change my shoes at 32 miles was anything but cunning!!

Unbelievable mate, really is. 7 mins miles! I can’t even do that for a 5k.

42:50ish 10k up in Leeds, good event from runthrough, think there were 500+ there for the 10k.
Happy with that performance, definitely not a pb course, 2 hills that you have to go up twice. Think that put me about 13th overall.
Fantastic time, well done.

I also went today. First 10k in a few years. I enjoyed it and would do the event again. I found the woodland climb (twice) really hard going.

Yeah that woodland climb was rough, luckily I'd scoped it out online the night before, otherwise I might have had a shock seeing that.

Well done on getting it done mate, not the easiest 10k. I thought it was a good event though, well organised.

It was well organised. On my lap 2 round the lake a woman and a man had fallen. Looked like she was in some distress. Marshall’s were on hand and the ambulance was coming to the scene.

It was my test today to set a target in the form of the 10k as I rebuild my fitness. I have another booked in a few months time in Morecombe along the sea front.

Just recently started running, and have to say I'm really enjoying it!

Started off just getting out and not really tracking distance or time, but once I got the hang of it (and shook off the beginners injuries!!), I've been doing a few 5ks and then managed a 6.5k on Friday

Had nothing planned at all today so set myself a target of trying to do a 10k. Sods law it's the first time I've gone out in driving rain, but really enjoyed it and only stopped half way for a quick 'reset'. Managed to get around in 1hr 2mins, but tbh I'm just buzzing to actually complete one

Question for those more experienced runners; how did you learn to trust your body in the first half of your run? I feel like my 1st half is much slower as I'm trying to just get myself into it, and then 2nd half I seem to gain confidence and that feeling of getting past the half way point?

Will try and keep posting with a bit more progress!

Nice one.

It will always feel slower at the start - you got to get you’re breathing going, psychologically more negative, legs not properly warmed up etc, that doesn’t go away but once you learn that it’s normal then you won’t think about it in time. Warming up helps (although I’m guilty of not really doing this)

Have you done a Parkrun yet ? Would really recommend and take the first one nice and easy.

If you can start doing 10ks then don’t wait around and book a 10k up, they’re the best motivation for training when you know you have a race to aim for - try not to put pressure on yourself and obsess about times etc - running is a long game and potentially a life time, you will have ups and downs, runners high and the odd injury, enjoy the ride!

Well done on starting, and on your progress so far.

Keep enjoying it, is my advice. Run at your favourite times, in whatever weather suits you. Be disciplined, because it can sometimes be hard to motivate yourself. There will be times when you need to push yourself towards higher achievements, and times to just get out there and run for pure enjoyment.

Run socially too, and draw support from fellow runners. Go to parkruns; they are brilliant for meeting other runners. Join your local running club. But mainly, keep us informed of your progress on here. This small group is wonderfully supportive. I ran my first and only marathon thanks to the cajoling and encouragement from this group, and I'm so thankful to this group for neverending advice and support.
