PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

Are you saying big stories aren’t suppressed?

Big stories are often suppressed, but that’s not what we’re talking about here (or at least what I’m talking about)

The scenario is a local journalist has been told by a credible source within City that there has been verdict but not to publish anything.

Clearly, if that source wanted to suppress the story there would have been a much easier way of doing so - don’t tell the journalist in the first place.

They cannot know the outcome before the ruling

What people are suggesting is that they will have more than a good idea of how well it's gone and what the ruling will be. Unless of course the judges have judged boxing competitions at any Olympic games where corruption abounds.

I was talking to the bloke who doubted @Prestwich_Blue reason for suppressing & then gave an example of working in an area where I’d imagine big stories are suppressed all the time.

I have always thought that when we are cleared we will help the PL and Masters to come out of this with as little damage as possible.

That being said rumours will get people ready for the final verdict to come, like lube before the big event it's all about the preparation.

Seriously, of course other clubs will try to sue City if they are found guilty of any charges, on top of any sanctions. But this saga is affecting us more than everyone else, they might get a small compensatory boost but the Premier League is shooting itself in the foot. If people wake up and look at this without bias, it is a terrible look for the EPL whichever way it goes, and the top players will be swayed by this when they see other big clubs in Europe, UAE and USA with money, supposedly devoid of corruption.

(The last bit was meant to be ironic).

What would need to be the minimum wording or structure of that implication to meet such a threshold?
That it was untrue and caused material damage to the club’s reputation. Think it meets the former but not the latter.

Carragher’s been guilty of far more actionable statements in terms of City’s revenue imo.

I agree with TheGhost on this though.

It’s pure fantasy that a journalist would sit on a story of this magnitude.

It’s also fantasy that a source with the credibility required to give a steer that would be enough to justify publication would expect a journalist to sit on it.
