Spurs (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

I know you want to defend a homegrown player but we need to face the facts. He is shite.

Wasn't great today, I acknowledged that. But what about the fact he was screaming at the senior players leaving him alone for every single corner??

My entire point is that you are zeroing in on a 20 year old kid when stones, Dias and the rest of the side were ignoring threats.

I've made two posts now pointing out the deficiencies in the tactical set up and the senior players lack of awareness and bottle but the only responses are from posters frothing at the mouth to talk about how Lewis is.

Sobering thought this.

Shame, as I was getting used to being the dominant team in England.

Oh well, here's to the odd trophy every 3 or 4 years, because this lot simply have not got the killer instinct to turn defeats into victories, control each game from the off and dominate from season start to finish.

They even look miserable!
Yeah, we don't just look physically off at times but mentally too. The fact that in the last minute of the game, Spurs were more likely to score a third than we were to score our first was sobering.

It was the same story last season where our opponents always looked the more composed team, in terms of transitions, passing etc. Our passing was a million miles off today , it was atrocious. New signings will take time to adjust but that was a piss poor effort from Cherki today, got to improve 100% on that
Cherki looked lost which is on the management but then they took him off and replaced with bernardo which was a masterstroke.

That was a hard watch.
But I'm not going to dig out individual players, its early days, we've had barely any preseason. Things didn't go our way today, but on another day they would have, the crosses to Haaland were just behind, marmoush had a bad day.

I'm hoping the new players will gel over the next month and we get a right back.

C'mon Blues, show some support and faith in the lads !

Spurs looked like a well drilled, organised team that knew what they wanted to do and did it. Hats off to them, can’t stand them but can’t deny they played well. Frank is a great coach.

We looked like a team with a bunch of players that had barely ever played together before, which in all honesty we were and are. No control, fluidity or anything tbh.

We’ll improve definitely it’s still way too early to judge us yet, but that was pretty woeful today. I think the days of us dominating teams and games consistently is done for the foreseeable though. Think we as fans need to temper our expectations for now
A reasonable and temperate post. This was one of the worst home performances in the Pep era.Worse in many respects than last seasons 0-4 humiliation. There is a changing of the gaurd I fear and we will have to get used to second best. Lets hope we regroup and come back in a year or two but in all honesty a lot of players looked way out of their depth today. They just dont seem to have the required mentality.Looks like another barren season sadly.

Pep needs to stop looking at Rico as one of his sons and needs to recognize that he’s a very average player and simply not good enough.

Trafford- not yet
Lewis- ring Forest quick.
Stones-Keep, but expect to be injured
Dias-rip up his new contract, dump his bird.
Nouri- too early to judge
Cherki-skills, but not a starter yet, keep
Reijnders-ok in free flowing game, keep
Nico-bit weak, but keep
Bobb- raw, skills, keep
Marmoush- not a winger, keep
Haaland-pointless if not passed to, keep
Silva-this seasons Gundog,
Foden-hope he’s back, keep
Doku-one trick pony, sell
Savinho- try on the left, if not then sell.
Rodri-must start, keep
Ake-keep, but expect to be injured
Ederson-put back in goal
Khusanov-give the guy a chance, keep
O’Reilly-keep, but not at left back.
Nunes-sell.
I’d take the opposite decision on Doku and Nunes, but otherwise fair enough mate.

Trafford was solid and didn't do anything wrong!!
Wow really - I'll defend any City player, but I won't do it with blinkers on.
Solely at fault for the second, and at a pivotal time in the game.
Still young - but currently we should NOT be playing the ball to him in those situations.
Actually, as I've said elsewhere, we need to tweak our game otherwise teams will carry on pressing us at will

Of all the things that marked Pep's football, on evidence of today's game, the man in the dugout is the only thing that is still out there. The rest has been gradually chucked out of the windows in the past I would say three seasons, until nothing has been left.

And what happened with our energy, effort, wanting to compete and we are still in August?!?!?!?!

First our game without the ball was brought down to complete inefficiency, then we have managed to keep schlepping the ball with creating ever fewer chances, and now we are mediocre even with keeping the ball.

Some will say it is early in the season, I would say the ship has already sailed.
Writing was on the wall 2 seasons ago.

Shocking.

The tactics don’t work.

The system from back to front is broken.

We pass about at the back not knowing what to do. If the ball gets into midfield we run into blind alleys, wingers constantly head down.

The lack of cohesion passing around the box is poor. The few chances created are not taken.

The defending is atrocious.

The lack of effort after we go down goals. Press was ok for a while first half.

No point calling anyone out. It’s broken.

We need 3 world class players min to play pep’s system.

Something has to give blues. No point not acknowledging the problems.

In summary, it is not working anymore. If we keep living in the past we won’t move forward.

Dominance is over. Whats next?
yep..spot on

Too many not good enough:
Rico and Dias - and we have just extended their contracts to make it worse
A keeper who doesnt fit our system
No right winger
No cover or Rodri

I dont know if that was arrogance from Pep today with that starting line up but it was clear from the moment it came out that we would be overrun in midfield....too many flare and attacking players, Cherki and Reijnders have just had a very rude awakening to the real premier league (Wolves are cannon fodder) - at present you can todlay both f those in midfield unless you play Cherki outwide in place of Bobb/Sav

We played wolves last week , cannon fodder, we're cookin, we gonna win the league, the treble and bang, we played an average side, at home, shows where we really are. That was shocking!!!!
I feel bad for people that got carried away after the Wolves game. The 4-0 scoreline didn't tell the whole story.

If I was a betting man….and I am…….I would say at least some of today was the result of Pep having to demonstrate to the board that we need to be more active in the transfer market….when some of them obviously th8nk the side is strong enough already…..

Not sure who said it pre match but I expect we’ll see a flurry of activity before the window closes…
Gonzalez
Reis
Khusanov
Marmoush
Ait-Nouri
Cherki
Reijnders
