Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

I remember going to Elland road, must have been late eighties. Neil Mcnab scored a penalty from what I recall and the Leeds fans on our right shot a firework into the City fans above us.
Bit dicey before and after the game.
Went to that, early season game possibly September 88 as a 16 yo with my best mate. Train from Chesterfield stopped at Wakefield and some right Leeds nutters piled on, kept our heads down from that point. Brilliant in the away end that day, still a good City firm present even though the guvnors raid had taken place before then. At half time I remember everyone helping themselves to whatever was behind the food and drink kiosks, lol. And remember the flare going into the stand bit above where the away terrace was

I was there. No offence but it was a flare burning really brightly unlike a cheap firework. The coppers caught the flare / firework chucker at the end of the match and were laughing and joking with him!

Went right over me and my brothers

Remember being in the daily star photo on the Monday

Does anyone have any recollection of playing Sheffield Wednesday in a midweek league cup tie around the late 70’s or early 80’s. Have a vague memory of a large group of Wednesday fans marching up Platt Lane singing, to the tune of Hersham Boys by Sham 69, ‘Wednesday boys, Wednesday boys…
Remember it well. We literally came round the corner and walked straight into them! To be fair they were no bother - loud but no drama to the extent that we just walked alongside them to the ground.

I expect the MIB’s will turn up and try and get to the Townley again.

I saw them last season meeting up in 7 Brothers, Ancoats.

They all left together and headed towards the Etihad through Ancoats.

They were being followed by GMP.

I got to the Etihad later on and 3 of them, probably some of their main lads, were surrounded by GMP, and were being held on the grass verge, next to the steel railings, opposite the Tesla car showroom.

Didn’t they all get to the Cornershop at 11am, get wrapped up by GMP and escorted to the ground, claimed a result and put it on their socials?

They never got anywhere near the townley last year. Police had it all boxed off and what could they do even if they did get there . Joke really !
