PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

The Independent understands that the APT settlement may even represent an end in itself.....

I despise this sentence that has found it's way into journalism, it's a way of offering a pure opinion but making it appear that it's fact!
Sky have a similar one when a presenter says "sources have told me...." that source could be the fukin tea lady who just had an opinion.
It's journalistic bullshitery. The one that does my head in is when they say "It is reported that...". Reported by who? The Associated Press or some lonely Liverpool fan in Tromso on his blog read by 2 other developmentally challenged fuckwits?
It's up there with the Daily Mail technique of manipulating emotions by writing headlines that start with "Anger as..." or "Fury as...". If you're telling people what to think regarding the news you aren't reporting the news; you're reporting on, or what you want to be, people's reaction to the news. Which isn't news, it's olds.

I'm not sure what your take on the China ref is. I take it as being that our Govt recognise that we need all the economic friends we can garner hence the collapse of the Chinese spy trial by the Govt's refusal to act. In the same way they do not to upset the rulers of Abu Dhabi by a potential humiliation if a certain verdict was delivered, We need their investment on a whole range of infrastructure projects.
“It says much that people in the game have started to refer to the collapse of the Chinese espionage trial, and wondered whether there will be government involvement given the geopolitical dimensions though the club’s Abu Dhabi ownership”

Yes you could be right. I didn’t understand it to be honest.

That hints perhaps that he thinks we will be found innocent because the Government has stepped in? Is that a thing that could happen? Can the Government do that? Or is it more likely he will use that as an excuse if we are found innocent?

He is not saying he knows what the decision will be but he has introduced a new element into the decision making progress.
Fact: A Football Regulator has recently been appointed though his appointment has been known for a long time .Said appointee is a long-term Labour supporter and donor whose background has been in sports marketing. Do you really think both he and his Govt nominee are going to let the PL screw up a relationship with a major economic investor. It's nothing to do with fantasy conspiracy theory nonsense it's the way the word works
Fact: The new IFR will have absolutely zero involvement in the case. And that the IFR will intervene outside of its remit having just been set up is another fantasy conspiracy theory. Utter nonsense.

Whats hilarious is that how many of us would have believed that little old city who we watched lose at home to fecking stockport, who revelled in cups for cockups, who must of us back in the day wore our crapness as a badge of honour would becomes the biggest story in the history of football and part of multi-national, multi-billion pound, high stakes game of intrigue which the whole of the sporting world and beyond cant stop talking about.

If you had told me this back in the day id have asked to share whatever drugs you were on.

When talking about arsenal it should always be remembered that they were the ones who introduced the concept of employee benefit loans into football (ie wages disguised as loans to avoid tax) under dein and wenger (all came out when ray parlour was getting divorced iirc) . Neither FA or Premier League looked at it despite the fact that the accounts must have been extremely dodgy assuming they incorporated these "loans". It was the EBT set up by Rangers (to pat loans to players) that led to them being relegated to 4th division in Scotland.
I watched a feature about David Murray a while ago and I think what happened in the end was that the IR insisted on the tax due on the loans and Rangers cwners of the time couldn't pay which was the final straw.
I don't have the details at my fingertips but shouldn't Arsenal also be liable for tax on this.

Your naivety is staggering

I wouldn't have shared them.

The typical type of answer from the conspiracy theorists. Just throw some generalisations and comments like "this is just how the world (or word) works". In fact, that you think situations can be buried days into a new IFR after a 5 year process is actually the real naivety and given you arrived here in Feb 2025, you are quite possibly not old enough to have much idea at all how the World works.

By all means come back to this when you are proved right which presumably is days away?

As if.
