Metrolink to / from Etihad

Has anyone tried to skip the queue home by getting a tram in the direction of Ashton and then getting off at the next stop, and going over to the other platform ?
They close the Velopark stop after the game. So you would have to go at least two stops. And then only have access to anything that comes from Ashton rather than those which terminated at Etihad Campus in the other direction and then turned around.

Probably quicker to walk to Central Park than try going towards Ashton and then come back I would guess. The queues on the Ashton bound platform look quite busy too.

Heads up for everybody travelling from Altrincham.

There is a direct tram to the Etihad that leaves Navigation Road (my stop) at 18:27 and arrives at the stadium at 19:03.

That is brilliant if it actually happens.

Having a concert at the co op at the same time as a match not a good combination. Not a space to be had at either ashton park and rides and only got parked up on the advice of an attendant to park at now closed tgi Fridays. Platform rammed with concert goers and couldn't get on the first single that turned up. Only got there 15 minutes before kick off when we'd planned a quick visit to the boozer before. Absolute shambles

We were at Piccadilly about 5:30 and waited maybe 40 minutes or more. Perhaps 2 or 3 came through that were rammed and a handful of people got on.
But at least 6 or 7 empty trams - some doubles went through allegedly “terminating at this junction”. Loads of kids off to the Co-op as well.
One of the staff, ( a mad young woman taking no shit) was really organised and tried to keep people calm. Said the 2 marches had come together in town earlier and caused delays, a tram had broken down between town and Ashton so no teams ran for a while. Some of the drivers were offered overtime but declined and went home.
Apparently they had all the right trams - but not necessarily in the right order!

Probably the perfect storm for problems last night. Earlier problems having a knock on effect. A concert at the same time and rain, which hugely reduces the number of people who walk from town.

I got on well before town so had no problem getting a seat. But all the platforms from Deansgate onwards were hammered and very, very few squeezing on. Hope everyone got there ok. On the plus side, the girls going to the concert all seemed a very friendly bunch.

What really pisses me of with this bunch of chancers is their lack of communication to the passengers.

I arrived at Navigation Road tram stop at 6pm on Saturday intending to get a tram into Altrincham and catch the scheduled 18:27 service direct to the Etihad. On arrival at Navigation Road the information board said there was a double tram to the Etihad in 2 minutes. After 8 minutes this tram vanished off the board and was replaced by a direct double tram in 22 minutes so already 3 minutes behind schedule.

I reverted to getting a tram into Altrincham and getting the first double tram going directly to the Etihad. This arrived at 19:21 a full 18 minutes behind schedule.

After the game I got on to the platform at the Etihad where a double unit to Altrincham was showing on the board as arriving in 1 (one) minute. A full 5 minutes later it was still showing as 1 minute then it suddenly switched to “Delayed”.

At no time do these clowns make an announcement over the tannoy and basically do nothing to inform passengers of what is going on.

One of their key mission statements posted all over the trams is “reliability”, who are they kidding?

I notice at Old Trafford Cricket Ground Metrolink stop there is work going on clearing ground which looks like it could be a siding to hold a Tram on the Manchester bound side. This could be to have one parked up ready to depart instead of waiting for regular services. If this is the case (can anyone verify) it seems that preferential treatment is being given to some.

I suspect you are right but they are keeping it a secret.

Twats.

Nothing planned for more sidings there considering the depot itself is just up the road. More likely it’s for material storage ready for work at Cornbrook.

What there IS talk of is building a turnback for Ashton originating trams where the old police station used to be immediately to the west of Asda. Mainly to help keep the frequency between Velopark and Ashton but it might improve the service Etihad to Piccadilly.

If anyone is going to the Brits (doubtful?) or knows anyone who is will be interesting to hear how metrolink set up for before and after the event bearing in mind this is a very big deal for Manchester - normal City service or an enhanced offering?
