Metrolink to / from Etihad

We could build more music venues on the campus to test that theory out, the solution is for everyone to walk so I am informed.
That reply always makes me laugh (in an angry sort of way)
Some seem to think that the answer to all the problems faced with becoming the biggest and best city outside London is to walk.
We want to attract people from all over the UK and indeed the world but they must wear sensible shoes.
"Excuse me could you tell me how to get to the Eiffel Tower "
"Yes love, it's a 30 minute walk in that direction, I know it's dark, cold and raining but hey you chose to come to Paris."

The tram to ashton is packed after the game, my take on it is that the matro is waiting for the sheikh to pay for a bigger transformer so more trams can do the runs into town and ashton. Then and only then it be a better for city fans and concert goers
Yeah I think the least the Sheikh can do is build a space ship to transport every blue

I used the metro last night to go to Whitley Bay.
After the match at St James10 mins wait in the queue..
Let the first train. go as it was rammed,10 min later another arrived got a seat no problem.
Speaking to Newcastle fans about it being a far better service than the Etihad they disagreed.lol.

Prove you love Manchester enough and show us you've walked far enough to make your stumps bleed.

I love walking around Manchester as it is a very compact City. The walk from the stadium is bloody awful though.
Walking is often mentioned as an alternative to bus/Metrolink.

However, the walk along the canal is only feasible during daytime - as the pavement is uneven and lighting very poor, plus overgrown grass and there's plenty of rubbish. Even the main road going into the city centre could help with better pavement.

Doesn't cost much, but a bit of maintenance/improvement would go a long way.

Of course, that wouldn't be as shiny and headline-making as building a new stadium/abomination at the other end of the city. Applies to all of the UK, doesn't it?

Can't you drive to Altrincham and catch the match bus or the tram?
I moved out Northwich way from South Manchester a few years ago, and having tried multiple methods (train, driving to official car parks, driving to town then the tram), can confirm drive to Altrincham and then the tram is by far the least worst option. It's clearly best on a Sunday when the trams are direct to the Etihad.

I really don't miss running the gauntlet at the end of the Mancunian Way trying to get onto Every Street. The tram has no shortage of problems, but I don't miss the stress of driving to the ground.

What your walk to the Etihad might look like in the future with the canals central to the new housing of Holt Town.
We are also waiting for work to start on the new digital campus at what was Central Retail Park, Great Ancoats St.

Ha ha, if only.

You love walking around Manchester so why can't this little part of Manchester be transformed? If one part has, why can't another? You have forgotten what East Manchester used to look like before the Etihad.

Yes fair enough, I am just sceptical by nature.

If it turns out to be like the renderings I will be there like a shot.

P.S. - Why are there trees growing in the canal?

Walking along the canal is strongly discouraged and seen as a major risk in the planning application for the arena.

The walking route they promote avoids the canal. The canal takes longer and has low bridges was various spikes and other urban stalactites.

No doubt there were will more housing there but it isn't a sensible walking route.

Hi everyone, there’s a few important changes to transport ahead of the forthcoming Liverpool and Arsenal games that we want you to be aware of.

Liverpool – 12.45pm on Saturday 4 April.

Extensive Metrolink works are taking place over the Easter weekend at Deansgate-Castlefield and Trafford Bar.

  • No trams will operate on the Eccles, Trafford Centre and Altrincham lines.
  • Services operating on the East Didsbury/Manchester Airport lines will terminate at Firswood.
  • Services operating on the Rochdale line will terminate at Exchange Square.
  • Trams will be operating to the ground from Piccadilly Station and Ashton as normal.

This will obviously have a massive impact on fans travelling to the match from the south of the city, so we want to make sure everyone is aware of the changes and plans ahead. Details of these works are now on our website: tfgm.com/tram-improvement-works/easter-bank-holiday-tram-works

We will have replacement bus services operating along the affected routes – such as Chorlton to Piccadilly/Altrincham to Piccadilly etc. However, fans along the affected routes will probably find it easier to take the match day bus direct to the ground rather than use these. For example, rather than fans travelling from Didsbury/Withington to Chorlton, to then board a replacement bus, and then a tram from Piccadilly to the ground, it would make more sense to use the direct match day bus.

To help mitigate the extra demand that we expect to see for this game, we are adding additional buses on the 5 and 10 routes – so there will be two departures.

For fans new to the service, all the details about the route and pricing are on our website: tfgm.com/man-city/bus-network

Arsenal – 4.30pm on Sunday 19 April.

On Sunday 19 April, the Manchester Marathon takes place – starting at Old Trafford, going into the city and then back out to Altrincham before going north through Chorlton and finishing on Oxford Road.

Extensive road closure will be in place, some of which will affect the match day buses. The 5, 9, 9X, 10, 16 and 16H will need to be re-routed due to these closures.

We are currently in the process of working through these diversions and will publish the revised routes and timetables shortly.

We are also conscious that the road closures will likely result in more congestion, so we will be factoring in some additional time which may mean your bus departs earlier than usual. So please check the timetables closely!

Even more people are running in the marathon this year compared to previous years, so tram services will be extremely busy. We expect to see significant queues at Altrincham and Sale tram stops from around 12-3pm when runners will be passing through the area and spectators then make their way to the city centre to meet loved ones at the finish line. As a result, journeys could take more than half an hour longer and we strongly recommend you to travel much earlier than normal to avoid any disappointment – especially with it being such an important fixture.

Anyone travelling from Altrincham or Sale may want to consider using Match Day Bus 10 rather than the tram for this game.
