Keir Starmer

They are supposed to be news channels, they interview people with views(and not just one) they shouldn't be promoting one themselves, this is basic stuff.
That comment is subjective, I can say I did not notice self promotion & you cannot challenge that with any objectivity

I suppose the FACT there was so much dissatisfaction with the EU there was a referendum & 17.4 million people voted to leave. Added to that I don’t remember being a member of the EU feel like it was a panacea of economic stability & public happiness.

Memories aren’t research though…

There is something a little sinister about Streeting and he’s too much of a career politician for me.

Wonder if Mahmood will stand. Think she has far more gravitas
If Streeting is next PM I would PMSL if he appointed Burnham (assuming he’s a MP) as Health Minister after the unmitigated fuck up he made of it last time, Evidence? Let’s just say Staffordshire & leave it at that.

You know capitalising a word does not give it accentuated effect?

And that’s a complete non-sequitur to the point you made which was the purpose of the EEC was to keep down the working classes, which you have yet to provide any supporting argument for despite being invited to do so.

By way of example, living standards rose prodigiously from 1975 to 2016, including for the foregoing working class, and since 2016 they have pretty much stagnated.

I’d be shocked if she doesn’t. If Streeting fires the starting gun on a leadership contest he will do to remember that he who wields the knife never wears the crown.

Very subjective reply, I don’t remember through the Thatcher years so called political commentators saying living standards were rising, indeed recession, public discontent were well commented on, correct me if I am wrong but were we not in the EU for all those years.
Also we voted to leave the EU in 2016 however it was 2020 before we even agreed some form of withdrawal agreement.

He’s probably the closest to my own politics, than any of the other "candidates" but, I'd agree there is something unlikeable about him.

Mahmood would be a breath of fresh air, plus would boil lots of piss.

It is empirically correct that living standards unquestionably rose from 1979 to 1990, and significantly so. And yes we were in the EU for all those years.

Think you need to finesse your research skills.

Zero chance she gets the gig. If Starmer go's and Burnham doesn't get to be an MP I think the left will be all over Milliband. I'll go with that.

Do you honestly believe we were told the truth about the benefits of leaving prior to the referendum?

Agreed about the huge parliamentary mandate not being backed up by any popular mandate. That was always going to be tricky in terms of being popular.

But that overlooks a key issue. Governments don't have to be popular to be successful. Powerful leaders set out a vision, tell the country and political their opponents (their own or the opposition's) how it is and that if they don't like it they can kick us out in 5 years but until then STFU.

Starmer has had no reason to behave like he had a majority of 10 all the time. He had the power from day 1 to lay out his stall and stick to it. Repeatedly doing stupid things and repeatedly u-turning has been his undoing. And the persistent lying.
I'm 61 and have no recollection of any Prime Minister being popular. Even when Labour came in on that 97 landslide my abiding memory was hearing "Tony Blair, what a wanker.." being sung the day after the election by the Cambridge United home end when I was groundhopping.

Thatcher, Major, Brown, Johnson etc etc all seem to be almost universally hated.

She’s already slightly broken for cover.

She’s made no secret of her ambitions but someone needs to be the first to challenge for the leadership and I only see that being Streeting. Once he goes for it then she will surely chuck her hat in the ring along with others. Streeting knows his opportunity is short, Rayner must surely be imminently hearing about her tax situation and he can’t wait for Burnham. So on the left they coalesce around who? Miliband? My guess is three go for it - Streeting, Mahmood and Miliband. Out of those Mahmood is the best candidate IMHO.

Personally I’d love it if they said fuck it and gave the job to Karl Turner.

Probably not, however there was that that much dissatisfaction it made no difference, the EU is hated by millions. I still say it is a Capitalist Bloc to subjugate the proletariat

Is it also true that living standards have never improved for the working population under a labour government?
