I do get the picture, but I just find it a little hard to believe.

Every ex Liverpool player on the planet had their say 2-3 weeks ago so nothing would really change in regards to them think he's a money grabber.

Anybody who leaves Liverpool/Arsenal to us will be labelled that, even the tea lady. So I'm not sure how dragging it out for a month or so will add to that view.

I suppose the fact is if it is playing out then I don't really understand what the additional gains on either side would be.

Erm, worldwide press and media attention for one..

Major deals......no other fucker wanted him did they. The only player not to have snubbed the shite so far
Haha I knew I'd get a response on this one granted not exactly a world beater but the rags know how to spin the media to make him look like Messi ;)

You've lost me. Are you saying that Liverpool want more press for selling one of their best players or we will get more press from delaying an announcement. If Sterling signs after a week or after a month a £40-50 Million transfer is hardly going to go unnoticed

Yet you don't find the crap in the papers hard to believe.

Believe me, I've had experience of dealing with the press. I've had my words misreported and I've had the club spin against me.

Likewise, I've used the media to my advantage. I was, shall we say, careful about my choice of words and maybe even economical with the truth on occasion if it suited my purpose.

The question you should always ask yourself when reading something in the media, and particularly the football focused media, is "What's the motive for this and who has what to gain from it?"

Liverpool have forced little City to pay much more than they wanted to, Sterling is only leaving because he's a money grabber & a scoundrel etc, not because he thinks City are better, etc.

To be honest mate it's not so much the idea of it playing out that I'm struggling to understand it's the timescale in playing it out. That's why I believe it's a little far fetched.

If for instance before all this started going public an agreement between all parties was agreed then I'm not sure why it isn't played out over a week or so.

What is there to gain for either party to drag this out.

If/when we get this done Liverpool would still have sold one of their best players and we will still have increased our offer by £15-£20 million to get him showing Liverpool won't let players go easy.

Nothing will change if this is done in 1 or 4 weeks.

If memory serves me right the Suarez deal took about a week after the initial bid to be completed so why wouldn't we choose to do something similar

I was being sarcastic in the fact that nobody but the rags think this is a major deal...

Off the top of my head Depay, Dybala, Mandzukic, Cech, Kondogbia, Vidal, Aurier, Kruse, Danilo

Mandzukic and Kondogbia were completed yesterday, Cech still hasn't been completed but is expected today. Can't be bothered Googlig the rest. So we're hardly behind others, especially since pre-season training hasn't started yet. If we're still struggling in mid-August it'll be time to panic

Suarez had to resort to eating people in order to get out of there. Savage violence & racism still couldn't swing it, he had to go cannibal.

I see your point but the timescale could be simply down to Sterling wanting a fortnights holiday away from all things football. That works for City if we know the deals in the bag. There's no need to push the deal if that's the case.
That's just a theory btw, not saying it's what's actually happening.

I am not sure I saw any there who are the quality to significantly improve our first team now

I don't understand why Sterling hasn't handed in a transfer request - I'm thinking that there is no point wasting our time on him until he does.

That will be his absolute last resort if it looks likes the mickeys aren't budging on their price. I would imagine he would stand to loose a significant wedge due to loyalty payments etc. His agent will be telling him to hold on as long as possible as he would rather city stump up the additional cash needed
