There is no other club in the equation because of both his desire to join and the amount Liverpool have been demanding.

Put it this way, if the price was £30m, as many on here seem to think he is worth, we would have at least ten clubs at the table.

He's a wonderfully balanced player who is going to give both our team and supporters what we have been desperately craving for years.

A bonefide top player who can offer maximum output with pace on our left-hand side, swap to the right, or cause absolute mayhem down the middle.

Perhaps we might even leave a couple of players up top again when defending corners, eh!

That will be his absolute last resort if it looks likes the mickeys aren't budging on their price. I would imagine he would stand to loose a significant wedge due to loyalty payments etc. His agent will be telling him to hold on as long as possible as he would rather city stump up the additional cash needed

My point being, though, that if he really wanted to come to us, and he's desperate to sign for a club thats going to win trophies, why is the money from a loyalty bonus so important?

Hand in a transfer request to remove £10m from your asking price and get an even bigger wage....

How does anyone know there isn't a new offer in? Leaks have been plugged, methinks.

TH. At what stage of the negotiations do you think we're at.

But how can under EU laws that be legal? Shirley football is just a business like any other!
The arguments being (and I`m not suggesting its correct) is that they (FA) want to maximise as many home grown youngsters coming through the system,to give a better chance in the long term for a better England team.
Which is a load of bollocks,as any team can sign overseas youngsters by the dozen,so its a piss poor ruling anyway,IMO.

At this stage theres no reason to think a deal won't be done. So why the need to do anything?

I'm sure if it looked like things were falling apart he'd make his feelings known.

There is a limit on non-association players which is generally referred to as the ‘Foreign player quota’. This does not specifically limit EU players within squads but it does by default. It is open to challenge and I am sure someone will at some point.

Do you know anything regarding the 3rd bid? (fee, date etc.)

I don`t understand the logic behind those suggesting that he will lose his loyalty bonus if he puts in a transfer request.Based on what we hear he will more than get that back, with his mega new salary at City anyway.Plus he`ll also get a bonus from his new club for winning a trophy. Now theres no chance of him ever getting one of those at Liverpool.

At the moment though he will still get his salary uprade and his loyalty bonus. Why would he through away money if there is still a chance a deal may be done.

These are footballers we are talking about, despite what they say , it is always about the money, for every last one of them

And I think that the fact he hasn't handed in a transfer request indicates that Liverpool haven't made any suggestions to him that they will refuse to sell no matter what the bid is. Clearly the position is that when an acceptable bid comes in, they'll allow Sterling to leave. Everything seems to suggest we will up our bid, Liverpool will accept and Sterling will sign for us without having to hand in a transfer request. It would be different if he had a say £70m break clause and no interested club were willing to go that high, that would be the time to hand in a transfer request.

I've heard that United always used to demand that a player put in a transfer request before moving to them. Whether that was to lower the fee and/or brag about how much the player must want to move I don't know. Chelsea were happy to put their hand in their pocket to give that little more to PSV for Robben though. We should never think that we're above our station and demand prospective signings put in transfer requests.
