Post counts

Because what you said they won't do is actually what they do do. As I say, watch our first meltdown and there will be wums on here who joined years and years ago

If that's the case, can you show any examples of rag/wum posters joining and waiting months before they make their first post?

I would guess it takes a fair bit of monitoring to make that claim. If you can, I accept your point. If not...

Fucks given if you don't accept my point:

Defeats always bring out the very worst in posters. Some are probably wums, many are over reactionary flappers. This has always happened though, regardless of post counts being displayed.

I know you'll say "I told you so" when it inevitably happens again, but I don't think it will necessarily vindicate your point.

Seriously wtf is going on with this place recently? Why are you continuously pandering to the vocal minority? A couple people don't like the word **** so you removed it for everyone, a few people couldn't handle being called rags so you remove post counts for everyone. Where is it going to stop? Fucking RAWK is less restrictive than this place is getting.

This place is extremely liberally moderated compared to other forums. Comparing it to RAWK is just a lazy insult people use whenever anything is changed on here. I suspect you've never been on RAWK if you genuinely think Bluemoon is run in a similar manner.

Mumsnet is where it's at.

It's getting like RAWK on here...

Thanks for all the feedback so far, it's much appreciated. I'm a bit surprised by some of the consternation, but as I've said, nothing is set in stone. There are clearly pros and cons to it, judging by the responses so far!

There will no doubt be some unhappy people whatever we decide, but please bear in mind we don't do things to intentionally piss people off. That would be self-defeating.

Can see why people find post counts useful in terms of recognising users or establishing trustworthiness (particularly in the ticket forum), but equally think that posts should generally be taken at face value and don't really like the confrontational approach taken to some with low post counts. Every post should be judged on its merits, and the constant rag/wum accusations can be tiresome.

Anyway, we'll see how things go before making a decision. It's not really that big a deal in the scheme of things if post counts aren't displayed for a week or so.
Been supporting City for 50 years. Joined numerous forums from DIY to holidays. Only joined this site 2 years ago. Opening posts on other sites you are welcomed. Posting on this site, because I assume of low post counts, you are abused, that cannot be right. Do we have members full of pride in their high post count and lacking in content in their post? I trust not. Bony to play Sunday. Aguero to come off the bench. Have a great day.

This is a football site though. Not holidays or DIY. If you've been abused it's more likely because of the content of your posts as opposed to how many you've made or how long you've been a member.
It doesn't matter if you've got 50,000 posts to your name or 5, negativity will be seized on. Just ask Bernarbia...
That's not to say you can't be negative, that's entirely your prerogative, just don't expect an easy ride if you are.

Thank you for the good advice on negativity. Does it matter though, what the site is? Should football fans be abusive to new members posting, when other forums of whatever persuasion are welcoming?

My point was more to do with the pack mentality that football fans have in abundance.
They shouldn't be abusive but if you've been following football for 50 years you shouldn't be overly surprised to see it on here.
I'm not a member of any other clubs fora, but I'm guessing it's not to dissimilar on all the other major teams boards.
The best thing to do is stand your ground and offer up your opinion with honesty. If you think things aren't great then so be it, if you think our signings are poor then be willing to explain why.
Your opinion is as valid as the next man - just accept it won't be always shared and move onto the next discussion.

The opinions that I have posted on numerous City-related forums over the years would probably put me in the top 50 in the post count. Despite this, by some people's criteria, I might be a rag because I have just joined this forum. Those reasons given by the people who want to keep the post count, were precisely the reasons that I haven't joined this one before.

Forums will always attract idiots from other teams, but it stupidity to think that because I have just joined, my views count any less than anyone else. Forums will always need new blood, and new thinking. Let's stop the paranoia, trust the mods to sort the wums out, and welcome people in, rather than putting people off!

too many paranoid people on bluemoon ,the agenda, the media bias are two of our popular threads, people need to chill ,I like the post count for no other reason than I was nearly on 3,000 ,if someone is being a **** it wouldn't matter if they had 1 or 1,000,000 posts I would tell them.
any chance of you making a Manchester tart bob :)

Not sure the Mrs will let me get away with that one peace frog, but she always said that one look at my sausage roll and she knew that I was the one!

I don't like his post because I think you've done a fantastic job with this forum over the years, however it does seem the vocal minority have had an impact on the forum lately. I'm just pissed off that I'm shit with names and I'm finding it harder to recognise posters.

Where's the Aguero poster who sits at home all day in his grundies driking Stella? Anyone seen him? I'm about to put up missing person posters.

OK. How about this, which should sort out all the problems. If your post count is 5000+ then you get an imge of the old City badge under your username......which will show that you're a trusted poster. If your post count is below 5000 then you get an image of a tampon........

The posters calling people rags all the time should be warned against it instead of making forum changes that affect everyone because of the actions of a few.During the match and post match it is evident who is here to WUM and it's is right imo that it is picked up on,they only visit when we lose so they stand out and should be challenged
