would it really work with messi in the premier league I don't think we should sign him and build a team around him like barca have. the premier league is so hard every team can beat you home or away there is no easy games and it takes more of team work and a (good squad) than a special player wanting the ball all the time. also the age and the very big fee is a big thing and we will not see a return in him come 4 years down the line when he is wanting to go home and finnish his playing days with is home town club in argentina

If pep came he would probably switch things around I know someone muted playing Delph at left back. Pep did something similar with Larm at Bayern.

I too not sure messi would cope in the prem, but id love to find out!!!! but your other point about seeing a return on him wouldn't really matter if he was on a 4 year contract the messi shirts alone over them 4 years would more than cover that surly!

I can't see it but that means nothing. Only Messi knows what Messi wants to do next. What I do know is if he comes to the Premier then I want him at City.

Coz Barca will have to purge some fantastic players. If they are getting Pogba, and already have the Turk waiting in the wing, i' ll say of Serge Samper, Munir, Rafinha, Roberto at least 2 are up for grabs.
Barca are running out of cash and won't be getting Pogba.

Having him and Kun would be like having Maradonna and Romario playing together in their pomp.

I'd agree its going to happen this Summer or it never will. He's depreciating in value with every window due to his age, and Barca will know that.

well the media are reporting a £800.000 a week thats a lot of shirts to sell and that's without what fee barca want for him but again its got to be well over £100million. so the maths wont add up on the market come the end of any deal Manchester city make if we sign him. but for 1 player if you had the chance yes it would be messi he's got everything other than pace but in that blink of a eye he gone past you with skill that alone makes him look faster than Jesus Navas hahahaha

but I still think the premier league is the key can we protect him over 38 games and fitness wise I dont think we can. he will need to sit out games like the league cup and fa cup. the premier league demands you to play each week and stay on top form any dip will hurt the team if you build a team around him and that's without champions league football

in spain it really is a 2 team league ok you may get the odd year when somebody will punch over there weight and shock barca or madrid but nothing like the premier league it really does test you week after week the bottom club are fighting for points there are coming to fight you for every single game home or away. the speed of the game is fan driven they will not let you walk around with the ball they want action for 90min. if your messi god help you in the premier league you would be given the ball at every chance and the fans would want magic and something all the time and thats impossible

but I am sat here still shaking my head about talk of messi could be coming to Manchester city hahaha little old man city ?? your taking the piss

People wrote silva off before he even kicked a ball for us and just look how good he is. Messi for me has a similar build to Merlin so for me he would be fine. Get it done city

not sure why people keep saying Sandro's name months after he signed for Juve with his contract almost run down. He'd cost us 30 million now.

Shirt sales are not really what counts as the percentage we'd get from each wouldn't amount to more than a few million which in the big scheme of things would assist our finances, but they wouldn't launch us into the financial stratosphere imo. What would have a significant impact would be the marketing potential of having the likes of Messi based on potential sponsors wanting to use his popularity to promote and boost their brands.

But, I think its sad that the business potential of having a genuine world superstar is as (and some may say more) important to what he can do on the pitch for us. Unfortunately hypothetical scenarios are just a sign of the times.

It could happen. Anything can happen. But its grossly unlikely. Lets try this for size: Aguero and Silva have nothing else to prove in England. Perhaps they should go join Dortmund and try to challenge the Bayern Hegemony in Germany. Dortmund is building something great.

See how silly it sounds, when you insert our best players for Messi?

Messi has many more records he can break playing for 1 of the 3 best teams in the world. Hes chances of becoming indisputably the best, is tied to the magic he feeds into at Barca.
There really is little value, to him going to join the 'future best club' he is at the current best club, and has about 3-4 great years left. He is currently playing with the other 2 best ball passing strikers in the world.
Frankly Messi, Neymar, Suarez are probably flat out the 3 best players in world football right. You really think they can't tell they are in the midst of something mind numbingly special? Trust me they can. You should watch them. There isn't a closer front line anywhere in the world.

Take off your damned blue lenses for a second, and realize there are special things going on outside of City too. Barca is currently in a special place and no one is leaving it anytime soon. No one leaves Barca willingly. They get pushed out when they are not needed. Check the list. They have a ban, yet players are queueing up to join. One is even sitting out half a season.

Contrary to popular opinion it looks like Barva is getting stronger. Not to mention Messi is acutely aware of the effect of Chemistry. He has a bunch of superstars in Argentina too, yet it doesn't work. But at Barca it does.

Why risk that? But hey, you keep dreaming of Messi. I'd dream of us getting the next one. This one belongs to Barca. Let's go makeor get ours.
You make some very valid and interesting points in your post.

Having said that, stranger things have happened. Yes I agree that Messi is Barca through and through and I personally doubt very much that he'd leave Barca for anyone including us, BUT Messi has had his nose put out of joint a couple of times in the last 2 seasons. On the playing front he lost the positional battle with his current manager who wanted Messi back out on the right where he viewed him as being most effective as opposed to playing as a false No 9 and then there's the matter of the tax issues he currently has going on.

There may just come a time when he does think, 'You know what, a change of scenery and a new challenge in the best league in the world might just be what I need to revitalise me for my last 4-5 years of top class football'. Who knows what will happen. I agree with you its highly unlikely he'll ever walk away from Barca, but would you be willing to place a bet on it? Well I wouldn't.

The silly thing is comparing us to Dortmund. We're a club with a global presence that has everything in place to be globally dominant in the next few years. We have access to cash and influence that Dortmund are unlikely ever to have and are more likely to be the hegemony than the challenger.

If you don't understand the analogy, ask!
