The Boxing thread

So with Klitschko beaten and Money retired who now is the pound for pound king these days. I think its so close to see who is the best out there now my top 5 and it changes a lot to be honest would be.
5 Danny Garcia
4 Guillermo Rigondeaux ( If he was more active he be top )
3 Andre Ward ( like Rigondeaux )
2 Gennady Golovkin
1 Sergey Kovalev

The top 2 for me changes fight after fight.

Also David Haye calling out AJ hopefully that happens in the summer.

1) Roman Gonzalez
2) GGG
3) Sergey Kovalev
4) Andre Ward
5) Terence Crawford

Khan v Canelo May 7th in Vegas.

I am shocked to see that Amir Khan is to fight Saul Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas on May 7th. Khan hasnt been in the ring for near enough a year and to take on Canelo is a shock for me to see. I thought he would of went down a final eliminator then a fight with Brook rather than Canelo. This is a must win fight for Khan if he loses then he may as well call it a day.

Didn't see that coming, not sure if its at catch weight but if Khan moves up I think it will suit Alverez.

Yeah its cannon fodder for Canelo if its up at his weight. I just cant see Khans chin taking a shot from Canelo clean. Yes Khan will be quicker and maybe they are looking at how Money handled Canelo and they are thinking that Khan can do the same. It must be big money he is getting for the fight as I just dont see why Khan would turn down the Brook fight at Wembley just a strange move by Khan and his team.

Just said on Sky, Khans moving up 2 weight division's, he's in for a very tough night if so. Khans only chance is at 147, strange one that leighton, not sure whare Khan goes after this because I only see one result May 7th.

From what i think they think the speed will be too much for Canelo its strange but i take my hat off to Khan if he wins it then he goes to the top table and the bigger fights again. Superfights. Shame for Kel as I thought the Kel fight was nailed on and Kel winning I would of backed due to Khan being so inactive at the moment. 1 big pay day it seems going by Khans dad.

Catchweight 155. Why not drop a pound and fight for a light middleweight belt ffs ?

Khan's not a big welterweight so going up to 155 won't suit him.

That said, if the extra weight doesn't slow him down too much he's got the style to trouble Canelo. Imo Lara beat him and Trout ran him close so Amir can take heart from that.

I thought the Cotto fight was closer than the judges had it, even though Canelo won the fight.

Just seems a strange fight for Khan to take, there's plenty of top fights out there at welterweight. I think the later rounds will suit Canelo, will be interesting to see Virgil's game plan, just hope it pays off

Brook's the big loser here. He's wasting his career. If he doesn't have a meaningful fight soon he may as well pack it in. I'd like to see him in with the winner of Thurman v Porter or maybe Garcia or at the very least Spence but rumour has it Eddie's looking at a fight at 154 with Liam Smith ffs.

Khan is more interested in money instead of titles these days - I think that's clear to see.

Canelo is the US' biggest draw now so regardless of the Brook fight giving Khan £6m minimum he'll get more from this one.

Canelo will beat Khan to a pulp IMO. It's not hard to land on Khan - pretty much every opponent he has faced has done at some point in the past. Hell, even Algieiri landed flush a few times. Canelo might not be the most mobile of boxers but he's incredibly accurate and he will tag Khan when he wants to. And when he does, it'll be lights out.

Khan knows if he loses this - which he expects to I reckon - then he'll bag a shit load of money and won't exactly be written off back down at WW, whereas a loss to Brook would probably be the end for him.

As for Brook, I expect him to breeze past Bizier and then have a unification with Danny Garcia. That's a fight id love to see.

I think Khan is trying to make fights that have little risk should he lose. Chasing Mayweather and Pacquiao, he knew if he lost those fights (which was the most likely outcome), then he would still earn the money but not really lose much credibility because of who he was fighting. I think the same applies to this fight with Canelo, he will go in as a big underdog and, in my opinion, will lose very comfortably. I think he will start off on the outside and stay away from Canelo, but eventually will get tagged and get drawn into a fight which is where Canelo will overwhelm him. He will come out of this fight though with a lot of his reputation still intact because he is going up in weights and expected to lose.

On the other hand, he could have taken more money and fought Brook, but if he lost that one to a domestic rival after all the talk, then his reputation would be shot and he would have to look at giving up or starting a rebuilding job bigger than after the Garcia knockout

Eternal shame on the WBC for sanctioning a fight for the middleweight title at 155 between a light middleweight and a welterweight. If it is the mismatch many think it will be it can only increase the clamour for a genuine middleweight title fight between Canelo and GGG in Autumn at 160.

Its actually a really smart move from Khan. Since Manny and May retired Canelo is the number 1 cashcow in the sport, this way he will get knocked out, pick up a fat paycheck and then still move back down to 147 for another big money fight with Danny or Kell blaming the Canelo weight advantage for his loss.

Kovalev looked the business last night, Pascal was getting beaten up but boxed on despite Freddie wanting to call it a day. Not sure who can cope with them shots, think ward would try to make it like the froch fight, get behind the jab, tigh him up and win ugly. Will be interesting to see how AD copes after moving up. He seems to got over his shoulder injury and back on track. Shame Paul smith didn't take him seriously, the fat ****.

It'd be an interesting fight but like you say it wouldn't be pretty. Whether Ward's still got it after 2 or 3 years out is questionable and even if he has can he cope with Krusher's heavy hands.

The one fight I wanna see more than any other is Kovalev Stevenson but it doesn't seem like that will ever be made.

There is plenty of fights both domestic and internationally that could well be made.
David Haye v AJ is a must this year if both stay fit.
George Groves v Martin Murray could be made , likewise Groves v Mundo Smith or Mundo V Murray , Paul Smith v Rocky Fielding will happen if Paul fights on too.
Brook v Khan is still workable for the end of the year.
Also you got the Winner of Frampton v Quigg fighting maybe Rigondeaux who gave a interview saying to both that the Daddy is back and ready for the winner.
The battle of Manchester Crolla v Terry Flanagan for a unification fight between 2 Manchester fighters that has got to be a first ever.
Andy Lee v Mat Macklin and even Chris Eubank jnr v Billy Joe Saunders could also be made again.
fuck it if we get half of those fights i be happy.

Plenty of great fights just hope they get made, money talks.

Daniel Jacobs v Eubank is a fight that interests me, not a big Eubank fan but he looked good against spike. Jacobs is a tough kid as we know, could be a cracker, still think DJ would win.

Eubank Jnr will get better if he listens to Adam Booth. He got Andy Lee to win a World title. Jnr looks more of a fighter who can take a punch so looks a better option

Adam Booth is definatly the voice of reason in that corner, just hope the circus leaves him to it. Booth will get the best out of jnr no doubting that.
