Being part of the biggest trading bloc attracting investment, Global company's are based here because we're apart of it.

Being part of the EU means we have say in EU laws mainly for business, leaving would mean we have no say. -
More than 50% of our exports go to EU countries, and our membership allows us to have a say over how trading rules are drawn up.

It has been estimated that UK trade with some countries in Europe could have increased by as much as 50% as a result of EU membership

Freedom to work In other EU member states

The European Arrest Warrant cuts out the need for long and complicated extradition procedures and allows criminals to be brought to justice across the EU

The EU is the world's biggest market and plays a big role in world trade, climate change issues, development projects and more.

It has the clout to take on multinationals such as Google and Microsoft. At the moment Britain plays a key role in the EU, and leaving would see us forgo that.

Stripped of influence in Brussels, Berlin and Paris, Britain would find itself increasingly ignored by Washington and sidelined on big transnational issues such as the environment, security and trade.

America and other allies want Britain to remain in the EU. The UK risks becoming a maverick, isolated state if it leaves.

British families enjoy lower mobile phone roaming charges, lower credit card fees, cheaper flights and proper compensation when flights are delayed or cancelled. These sorts of benefits could not be achieved by Britain alone.

The EU has helped secure peace among previously warring western European nations. It helped to consolidate democracy in Spain, Portugal, Greece and former Soviet bloc countries and helped preserve peace in the Balkans since the end of the Balkans War. With the UN it now plays a leading role in conflict prevention, peacekeeping and democracy building.

Equal pay for men and women is enshrined in EU law, as are bans on discrimination by age, race or sexual orientation. This benefits Britain and British people who live in other EU countries.

The UK is the second largest beneficiary of EU research funds, and the British Government expects future EU research funding to constitute a vital source of income for our world-leading universities and companies.

We do have our own border you know and without the EU sticking it's nose in, we can defend it.

We never signed up to the Shengen agreement and that why we have passport controls on our borders. Being in the EU allows us to have an agreement with France where we station our border staff across the channel - thus strengthening our borders.

Protecting our borders is also linked to domestic Government policy. The reality is that we have slashed our border control resources!

Think of all that spare cash we can use strengthening them again ;-)

I think the last thing that is gonna be made available from the people promoting one side or t'other is a break down in the maths as to HOW we will be worse/better off by remaining/leaving. I trust neither camp as having the interests of ordinary voters at heart. Vested interest will drive the campaigns. This referendum will have motives that are no different than those at general election, council election or mayoral election. We will hear the oft-repeated phrase 'the interests of the British people' a million times, when the speaker has no intention beyond gaining the advantage for his own sectarian interests.

always good to hear an unbiased view such as this outlining both the positives and negatives of EU membership ;-)

If it was just down to money then there is a case for leaving the EU but I'm not convinced by it.

Back in the 70s when the referendum was held to confirm our EU membership, we didn't have a pot to piss in. We were running cap in hand to the International Monetary Fund to stop us going bust as a nation. Now we are the 5th biggest economy in the World are we supposed to believe that the EU has been a big hindrance.

There are certainly some problems with the EU but it hasn't really held back our economy. Why do we think three quarters of Cameron's cabinet of millionaires wish to remain in the EU!

We joined a trading union.

That's now morphed into a political union and I want no part of it.

It won't stop until there is a United States of Europe.

We won't vote to leave people like the status quo fearing change hence why we keep voting the same muppets in election after election.

That's true and Cameron has made it clear that our Government won't accept closer political integration.

The decision comes down to whether the benefits of membership outweigh the disadvantages and IMHO they probably do!

Cameron has been given a tiny sweetheart deal as forecast last week as they all suddenly realise that their party might be up. Make no mistake, a vote to stay in will see them about turn on and carry on along the road to a European super state with us having zero say in it.

He has been given a tiny moral victory in the hope it fools us into voting to stay in.

It will get very interesting if the European Parliament vote against the deal.

Yes Cameron didn't get all that he wanted and in some ways it would have been counter productive if he had. We don't want Poles who have come here to work to feel like second or third class citizens (not to be confused with season car holders). We have enough problems with divided communities already.

This deal was supposed to address the piss takers re. Benefits and to some extent it does that!

That said, we have home grown people who abuse the benefits system as well.

£50M a day in membership fees and you fall for the rhetoric of it all being the fault of a few benefit claimants.

They are laughing their bollocks off at us all.

This is going to be very entertaining. Roll on the unusual alliances that will baffle the electorate!

The benefits issue is largely for an internal Conservative party debate. It will be important to some voters though!

I won't go over all the benefits of Membership that I and others have listed by 70 years of peace in Europe is a decent start.

That deal with France is completely separate from the EU. There's no reason why it could not continue if we voted out.

Or the French might say aurevoir!

Do you think the French will choose to keep the jungle that's ten times a bigger dump than the Alexandra Park estate ever was!

Not sure why you are using this argument. It was debunked weeks ago as utter nonsense.
The french cannot choose to export their camp of illegal immigrants across the channel whether or not we are in the EU. Those same illegal immigrants are currently refusing to move into purpose built accommodation as they don't want to break up their "community". The French have failed to deal with it and they will fail to deal with it in the future but as these people are in France, if they try to illegally enter the UK we can simply deport them back to France.

France know this which is why they are happy for us to pay for the policing of their border rather than have to deal with a constant flow of returning illegal immigrants.
