Did Barry have to cover yaya's fat arse though? Dinho the better player by a distance

Yes, Barry constantly had to do it. Yaya didn't have any better a work rate defensively in 2012 than he did in 2014. Dinho can't cover his fat arse these days either in case you haven't noticed.

Not much love for my man De Jong in here then?

Loved him, limited but good at what he did, most of which was psychological, but I've seen some silly shit posted over the last week which wouldn't even make it on to the redcafe highlights reel...

Barry again, cracking player but alongside a very different yaya to the one we have seen over the last 18 months..

Dinho is a couple of levels above the pair of them, easily so, however, what we have done is improve the position 3 times in the space of 8 years, gundogan will be the 4th.... That doesn't mean dinho is finished bla bla bla, we are just getting a considerable upgrade!!

Gundogan an upgrade on 'Dinho? Some statement, Dinho is completely world class and has done a lot of Yaya's work in midfield in addition to his own and still stood out. Not watching German football I haven't sene much of Gundogan play but it'll be interesting to see if Gundogan is an improvement! - That's if they've played similar roles for us.

You said it better than I could have :)

I'll always hold those three in the highest regard so I don't know if I could choose which one I'd prefer. Shame we couldn't have gotten Barry and Fernandinho at a younger age.

Think of what Modric does for Madrid. Modric imo has never hit the level Gundogan did in 2012/13'

Gundogan is a better footballer, albeit they have different strengths. But yes, an upgrade none the less.

In fairness all four compared players are actually quite different in style, yet Ilkay>Dihno>Barry>DeJong will be my natural order from superior to inferior.

Strange to say that comfortably these days. I remember days when saying the above would have gotten me a 'Rag' 'Wum' response... :)

No he wouldn't. But I'm not surprised so many said the same about Yaya 3 years ago when I was screaming sell now. The only other people who agreed with me was the Cake brigade.

And they had a more personal reason why they wanted him out. I think I was the only one saying from a football perspective, while his production increased to 20 goals that year, his performance dropped.

Dihno has been one of the best this year, but his performance (or a better way to put it is : his capacity, dropped).
yeah but the thing that fernandinho have in his favor is his engine and stamina something yaya didn't have.

He's had his hands tied behind his back with yaya over the last 18 months, Ray Charles could see that... You don't need to justify what a brilliant player he is, I'm with you, however, a fighting fit Gundogan runs rings around him... That's not to say that dinho wont go up a notch either, he'll be afforded a more advanced license due to Gundogan's ability to sniff things out... We always wanted yaya/fern to be interchangeable, now it's a requirement of a Pep team..

As much as I love Fernandinho, there is room for improvement. There was a long period after the last World Cup and 'that' game against Germany in which he seemed like he wasn't going to regain form.

Although that kind of spell will happen with most players, the other thing Gundogan has as an advantage is that he's got a De Bruyne esque speed of thought where he is already one or two passes ahead of the rest of the players.

He knows where he's going to play it so far in advance and still maintains the body language of someone who has all the time in the world.

For me, that's simply something you can't teach and is a massive indicator of when you're witnessing a very special player.

Edited to remove the Del Boy French.

And that's the part of his game that has lost a step this season. He is slightly slower, and his energy consistently did not last the 90 minutes this season like it did last. On multiple occasions he was caught gassed as his mark blew past him. It didn't lead to goals for the most part and he played often well otherwise, so most wee forgotten. But Arsenal showcased a similar error of dropped energy that did lead to a goal.

If he continues as a cog in our midfield next season as opposed to a rotational player, I expect him to foul more often next season.

Add another year to that and he is certain to be slower, talk less 3 years. Brazil has already made the adjustment. Best we pay attention and start the process of making ours.

Each has there place in our history but history also points to the upgrade I alluded to... I might hate gundogan as a person after 6 months, that rat on his lip is already offending me, however, what a player (just hope he can remain fit)... Those other 3 are top lads, but this isn't a popularity contest.... A part of me wants the villainous Gundogan, as the dog wanker once stated about the ginger headed sphincter "he's a nasttttty player"!!
