Marc-Andre ter Stegen

More to the point though, the only reason ter Stegen wants to leave Barca was for more play time. And that's even though he played in all cup competitions, CL included.

He's not coming to City to play second fiddle to Hart. This leads me to believe he's either not coming at all, and Daily Mail going to Daily Mail, or it's Hart being sidelined instead.

If we get Ter Stegen he will be the starter. Hart will be on the bench. You can believe that.

Maybe Pep, just doesn't rate Joe. Full stop. and, if as rumoured the two Merseyside clubs have been sniffing around, sees this as an ideal opportunity to move him on. Particularly if Ter Stegen is available at that price.

Probably just his agent using us as a lever to negotiate improved terms, as per, to be honest :-(

Makes me sad to admit, but you're right. Hart would, in such a hypothetical situation, be in Willy's role or potentially leave.

Ter Stegen would be a big upgrade in many ways, but it seems Pep is convinced of the need for a replacement for Hart, at least within his tenure, whether we can coax him from Barca or not.

txixi will go in and insist we pay 50m or its off.

Really hope this rumour is true. This lad will help take our game on to another level.

The training session that City uploaded to YouTube recently was utterly fascinating for me, because you could immediately see what Pep was trying to introduce, his fundamental philosophy on how he wants us to play. It was the first thing he was drilling into the squad, how to play it out from the back, and how to effectively press.

If you listen and watch carefully you can see that he was drilling the players on how to play it out from the back, all the way to the front, and once the team in possession found their frontman at the top of the pitch he played the ball to the opposition goalkeeper and then it was the opposition's turn to try and play it out from the back.

He was simultaneously teaching the players how to play it out the back, and how to press, giving instructions for both. You can hear him ordering Tosin to get to the byline continually, so the centre halves split and gave Willy an option for a pass.

It's a fascinating glimpse into what's to come, it's clearly a fundamental to how we will play next season, and beyond. There are few keepers in Europe that are better at this than Ter Stegen, and he's a very good goalkeeper in his own right too.

Of course it'd be a negative for Joe, but taking the blinkers off, I think it would really help us come on as a side.

.............or, we could get our comprehensive coaching team to teach a professional footballer how to pass a ball. Can't be that fucking hard given that it's what you'd think is a basic for a football player.

How hard can that be to teach him to improve distribution? Not that difficult surely?

There are no downsides to this transfer if it goes through.

Either the competition spurs Hart on to reach a higher level and he becomes an even better keeper.

Or

Ter Stegan turns out to be the better keeper and replaces Hart.

Either way the goalkeeping position will be hugely improved.

There's no reason whatsoever why Joe cannot play the keeper/sweeper role. It will be interesting to see how his distribution improves in a team where mobility and movement are the norm as opposed to having the ball and looking out at a bunch of arse-scratching, disinterested lazy bastards waiting for someone else to do something magical to win the game.

Fucking bang on. Let's see how he does with a new defence and midfield who are going to be a lot more mobile.

Well said!

Totally agree, for the club it's a win win situation and for the reported £15mil price tag it's almost too good not to do!

Pep's going to apply his previous tactical strategies? Transcendent analysis. We were all unaware.

Ter Stegen is a class keeper but i'd be surprised if buying him meant Joe wpuld be leaving - Pep hasn't had chance to work with him at all yet!

Only Daily Mail reporting this, bit dubious rumour. Surely one of the Catalan papers would be first to report this if true.

Well this one came back out of nowhere, thought it was dead in the water... Would be really pleased with the signing, even more so for £15m.
