Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Exactly,he does not seem to want to make those decisions, you only have to look at that clown in goal to see evidence of that,on present form a contract extension rumour seems well out of place,so forgive me if i treat it as exactly that-an internet forum rumour without any foundation whatsoever
Time will tell

Seems a bit unecessary to me.

Look, I hope he stays here for 4, 5 or even 20 years as this will mean that he's made a success of the job and that we've really become one of the best teams in Europe, but... what if he doesn't? What if, at the end of next season or the season after we've not progressed as we should? Success is not guaranteed and that is in no way a judgement on Pep's managerial abilities as I do belive he's a great manager, however sometimes things just don't work out.

Why not wait until the end of next season, when we can see how things are going, to give him a new contract? Why does it have to be the end of this one when we quite possibly may have had what could be viewed as a relatively disappointing season? If it's to "send a message" out as some people have suggested, I ask who to? The media? Why give a fuck what they think or say (the club usually doesn't). Players? Frankly anyone signing this Summer isn't going to give a shit whether Pep has 2 years or 3 years left on his contract.

As I said,I just don't see the need for it. If it doesn't work out the only thing that is going to happen is that it will cost us twice as much to dispense of his services.

It's a response to yesterday's post-match thread on BM, mate. I think that really put the wind up the Sheik.

Great News on a day when we needed some, but you have to laugh. Posters only yesterday were calling for his head saying his style will never work in the PL. Advance to clock 24hrs and now its, maybe he will get the players he needs for his system.

Brilliant news and gives him and the club time to shift the dead wood and bring the players in he wants and needs.

The problem is Pep IS NOT going to change his football philosophy and at the moment do not have
the players good enough or capable of playing his style. By that i don't mean all the players.
Think we all know where our big deficiencies are.

Bottom line is, we all need to show some patience. Just hope we don't have to suffer too many more
days like yesterday.

FFS lets just get behind the guy is it. Let him be judged after his tenure with us, whether it be 6 months, 6 years or in 2 decades time. In footballing term hes only been with us 5 minutes.

Im not judging him yet and im behind him just like i have been with all the other managers we have had in my time, even frank clark!

we have waited years for him to come, so lets try and buy into what hes trying to achieve. If he fails then the club will still continue and we try again.
if he gets it right then we will hopefully be reading this thread in the Classic section in years to come thinking how silly some of us have been.

im hoping its the latter!

Great post

Things will take time. Pep, and the hierachy have stated this since day one. It'd be glaringly irresponsible for the club to change their plans so soon into his appointment.

Expect him to sign an extension to his contract this summer.

Pep is being backed to the hilt.
That`s exactly the news I was hoping for.
Sorting this old team out and the purchase`s we`ve made of youngsters won`t bare fruit in six months, CALM DOWN PEOPLE

Whiskey nose got four years before he got together the squad he wanted....Let's give Pep some time he is far better than that rag ****

Actually, I've even found myself wondering about this. He is virtually totally right-footed. If he gets the ball on his left foot, he dares do nothing with it. He takes time to transfer it to his right foot, and by that time, the opposition's forwards are closing down on our full backs such that when they actually get the thing, they've got no time to think, they've got to make a panic pass, as often as not, straight back to him. But he himself is being closed down at this point, so that he has to hoof it. Count the number of times this happens, and I think you'll see that it's frequent. I'm not getting on Bravo's case here (at least not for this - his shot-stopping is another matter), the vast majority of footballers are one-footed as far as accurate passing is concerned, but the fact is that even this building it from the back is not working as smoothly as it should.
It worked at Barca because the full backs immediately had one of the deep midfielders who had taken up space, to pass the ball to with one touch. And that got the whole Barca machine rolling forward. That isn't happening nearly as often as it ought to with us.

Whatever his non-existent performance with his hands, his footwork and distribution was very good yesterday, particularly in the first half when the team weren't imploding. Everton were pressing us high, and he was inviting the press before passing into vacated space very well, with him, Yaya, Stones and Otamendi forming a diamond where 2 of them were always free. He is pretty right footed but he testers it quickly and he will pass with his left if he needs to, and did yesterday a couple of times.

Why do you think it's a message?

I'm sure Khaldoon would sign him to a 10 year contract if he could, so if he signs an extension it's a sign of him buying into the club, the challenge and saying he's here for the long run.

And that does mean a lot. To the younger first teasers, to the academy players and staff, to potential signings, to everyone at the club. It says this isn't just a 3 year skirmish, a dabble in England, this is a serious long term project and he's going to see it through.
