10 | Jack Grealish - 2024/25

When you talk price tag, don't forget the "english tax".
Due to foreign player limit rules, an english player always attracts a higher price.
There aren't that many world class english players in each position, so good ones are valued higher.
Jacks value selling abroad won't attract the same interest. We paid more because of this.

Either way, i'm glad we have him. He keeps the ball well, and if not we get a free kick!
It wasn’t even that. It was a release clause. Villa didn’t want him to go, so wouldn’t have sold him for anything less.

It wasn't a great season either . He had 5 goals and 7 assists in the league. No goals and no assists in the champions league. A good 3 months was about the height of it.
In the 2022-23 season Jack created 46 chances from open play in the Premier League, only bettered by de Bruyne from any team.

In that season he also topped the CL from all teams with 35 chances created from open play, 20 of which were classed as being while under high pressure. That’s the most in any season by anyone since Tadic in 2018-19

We won 78% of the games Jack played in, in the Treble season. Whereas we won just 46% of the games he didn’t play in.

Nonsense. He has 27 assists in his lifetime in the premier league. He had no goals and either 1 or no assists (Depending on what site you look) in that season champions league.

They are literally his recorded statistics from that season.

It’s not his fault the people he’s setting up to score miss most of the chances he creates.

This one’s a stat after last night’s game:

Football is also not just about stats.

It’s about doing the job the manager wants you to do for the benefit of the team. Grealish takes up positions on the pitch and runs with the ball into areas that create space for teammates better than anyone else. There are no real stats for that.

He’s also a very good defensive player. A number of times he was in our own box last night and either intercepted a pass, won a tackle, stopped a cross…

Since the start of the 2022-23 season, Jack has created more chances from open play in the CL than any other player, with 55!

That’s more than de Bruyne, Mbappe, Vinicius Jnr, Gündoğan, Foden, Rodrygo, Musiala, Bernardo, Sané, Salah, Díaz…
That’s a completely meaningless statistic. Chances created are worthless unless they end up as goals and assists. You might as well use how many throw-ins he earned.

Also got the highest performer on our team last night on my flash scores rating (though the team wasn’t great as a whole admittedly) but the way some people on here see the game is absolutely mind-boggling.

By using the eye test it was clear he was one of our best players. If the rest of the team played as he did we win it comfortably last night.

He didn’t have a bad game by any means. So yes people criticising him seems harsh. I think you could count on one hand the amount of times he’s been shite for us in a game. When Jack’s our best player on the night it shows how much our match winners were off it and you end with a performance like we had in a fairly drab game(credit to Inter they were good and very well organised).

The point is he had the same type of game he always has out on the left. Apart from late on in the game where he did drive at defenders a couple of times. I only remember 3 good chances all game. The one Bernado missed from Kev, the Gundo one from Doku’s cross and was it Jack that put one on a plate for Foden?

Every conversation about Grealish and his value to the team should be in the context of his transfer fee.
None of the conversations about Grealish and his value to the team should be in the context of his transfer fee. The latter has absolutely no bearing on the former, and for you to allow it to is a manifestation of an absence of rationality at best. You are thereby suggesting that if we’d paid £10 million less then you’d assess his week to week performances differently; £20 million less then differently again etc..

What a stifling and preposterous way to allow your assessment of someone’s contribution to the team each game.

Thankfully our manger, you know Pep Guardiola, isn’t as limited in his thinking.
