It’s ok to critique a performance regardless of his age and experience without being labelled as impatient and writing the lad off after 90 mins.

He was poor and it wasn’t a good debut but so what? He’ll get better and all the happy clapping top blues on here can come back and quote all the genuine opinions and feel good about yourselves when he eventually plays well in the not too distant future. Good for you lot lads, Superbia in Proelio points for you all.
why was he poor???

Poor debut. Technically not a typical Guardiola type of player.
Technically not a Pep player....he is exactly a Pep player who just needs refinement, Pep loves technically gifted players and this lads ability with the ball at his feet is exceptional.
He also loves a player who is humble and hard working and you can also see that already

I get the feeling you are a disgruntled fan from another team

Bad passing, too many dribbling, gave ball away….

First game and too early to judge his performance.
You just did judge his performance. He made one or two bad passes...so did Rodri....

What do you mean too many dribbling....you mean when he beats a man and gets a cross in? - Twice!

He also won the ball back on numerous occasions

Come on mate you know how it goes. Always need a scapegoat. Never mind that he’s 21, moved over from another league, barely trained with the squad yet trusted to start a game so soon and played his part in a 5-1 win
No one has called him shit, or blamed him for anything. Some were more disappointed with his performance than others.

Since those posters posted, we’ve had page after page of the “can people seriously say this that or the other” posts with others agreeing.

Neither so much in the grand scheme of things.

There is probably no point in this thread until he’s had a few games. Unless you praise him enormously there seems little point in posting anything.

It was his first game. It showed. But it also doesn’t really matter that much, or mean anything. He hasn’t trained with us for long, and not at all with Pep.

A few glimpses, but probably tried a bit too hard - which is fine, and entirely understandable. Probably didn’t get me out of my seat as much as some players do on debut, but again, it doesn’t matter.

I did think in his 10 min cameo Bobb looked more accustomed to how the team plays, but he’s been training with them for 2 years or so.

Yet again amazing comments for a lad that has been at the club for one week.

We paid 145 million pounds for two England Internationals and they are allowed a full 12/18 months "settling in" time, yet a young 21 yr old playing in what the same people call "the farmers league" is expected to perform from the off.

Incredible Jim, simply @ucking incredible!
It could be said that both are still "settling" in.

Yeah, Grealish and Phillips never got any negativity on here in their first seasons.

Be Careful the haters will be out, incredible the way certain players are protected , yet others are ripped a new one, actually it's utterly bizarre.

In Grealish's case, even he came out publicly and said his first season was poor, "far more difficult than I thought it would be" , yet his fan boys still were in denial. Delighted that he turned it around before and after the WC, but long overdue.

Phillips since his arrival has simply been stealing a living, his injury was unfortunate but that was over 6 months ago , yet people are still making excuses for him.

Was a fairly quiet debut, but that's only to be expected given his age and playing in a new team/league for the first time. Didn't help that the whole team were a bit off it, in the first half particularly. Showed glimpses of what he's capable of though, and am looking forward to seeing more of him. Nice to have a winger looking to take people on. Think he probably only started yesterday due to Grealish's injury, and can see him having more of an impact from the bench initially when defences tire and the game gets stretched.

Nothing exciting today. Needs training sessions and also Pep talks. Technical ability isn't up to the standard we are used to either. So with Haaland AND Doku we have good counter attacking tools for a team that is rarely allowed to counter attack. Nor suited to our patient keep ball as they both don't hold the ball up as well as others.

I expect he'll make a terrific full back once we see he isn't quite there in the final 3rd. Good luck to the kid though.
He has good technical ability, he was understandably nervous. Doku was chosen to start ahead of Bernardo meaning he has shown a good level in training. Alvarez is not great technically but performs well and is improving why? Because of elite coaching.

You 'expect he'll make a terrific full back once we see he isn't quite there in the final 3rd. Good luck to the kid though.'

What a patronising and idiotic comment.
