He did amost nothing yesterday.

That means very little. Although he did actually create the best chance of the game.

Also, just because a few people say he's overrated, it doesn't make it true. As I say, he contributes more than anyone in that position at the moment.

Arsenal fans say Foden is overrated and are having digs at him for being anonymous yesterday, as you've done with Saka, so what does it matter? We know Phil is quality.

Its ok to say Saka clearly is quality player too.

It won't work for him here, you can't teach the things that he's no good at.

We should have been bringing in someone 'like' Luis Diaz, who can dribble with the ball and create and score goals.

He's got incredible close control, and has natural ability with the ball at his feet.

This thing of Doku only being 21 and therefore having time to develop is nonsense, you can't teach natural ability at that age, you've either got it or you don't. His natural abilities are borderline useless at City, as we don't play that way, and if we did, his end product will never be good enough to play in such tight spaces.
I hope you are wrong but fear you might be right. I will give the guy another season to develop, but for me anyway, he is well short of the mark currently.

He's really not.

Lots of City fans will say this because there's often the Foden v Saka debate

I'd take Foden every day of course and I think he's a more gifted player but Saka is not overrated. He does his job excellently, he provides a lot and scores plenty too.

You'd have to pay a hell of a lot of money to get a winger that scores and assists as much as he does.

He really is, and as per anything it's about opinions, fucking bottler

He seemed like he had a decent shot when he first joined, his shooting feels horrendous now. still think he had a decent impact with his running yesterday and got in some dangerous positions but man the final action is just not there since his injury.

So by what metric is he overrated except not doing much in some games here and there, something that applies to every footballer in history

?

Because a lot, and obviously you are one of them, fawns over him, I remember quite a few moments he's been anonymous, oh and shit at taking penalties, in what was crucially the biggest moment of his career to date

I don't fawn over him, I'm not 12. The fact you think giving credit to someone deserving of it is "fawning" means you might actually be 12.

I'm objective. Look at his goals and assists over the last two seasons, he does his job excellently. Barely anyone in that position can match him for goals and assists from that position right now. It is what it is. Only a shithouse denies to give someone credit to is doing their job very well over a period of time and refuses to acknowledge facts.

All players have been anonymous in games. Phil was yesterday and got dragged off after 60 minutes. He's been anonymous many times, as has every player in history. It's a silly point. Does that mean they're all overrated?

Do I think he's as good as Foden or has the ceiling of Foden? Nope.

Do I think he's overrated? No. The facts suggest he's very good.

Both things can be true.

The rest of his game is as good as Doku's. We don't get many penalties which bumps up the stats for Saka. The crux of the matter is one isn't better than the other.

You think Doku is as good as Saka? Come on. He's not.

Nobody is saying Saka is Ronaldinho, but he's streets ahead of Doku as it stands.

Sometimes you just have to look at reality. Its one thing supporting our team and players as we should but you cant be deluded.

There isn't a manager in Europe right now that would choose Doku over Saka to start a game.

Can Doku do a few things Saka can't? Sure, he can do a few things 99% of players can't. But overall he contributes nowhere near enough to say he's equal to Saka.

This is a thread about Doku, not Saka (or any other opposition player), so let’s get back on track.

Thought he did OK yesterday when he came on (from what I saw anyway). Still raw of course, but posed a few questions of their back line which was pretty solid otherwise.

My fear is I could copy and paste a post I made about him about 2 months ago and it would still be relevant today.

Without an improvement in end product all the brilliance he shows to get him there in the first place is pointless.

Well let's just hope those questions start turning into answers. His end product has been atrocious really, except once or twice months ago.

We're pretty much banking on him being young and hoping the rest of his game will improve tenfold because its going to need to otherwise he'll be at somewhere like Fulham in a couple of years.

Why do you expect from him answers, when the likes of Haaland, KDB and Foden can't even pose questions...Don't be daft.

Haaland is the top scorer in the league despite missing 2 months. Foden has been our outstanding player.

They're not immune from a poor game or patch, but there's a big difference between them and a player who seemingly cant pass or shoot whenever they've been on the pitch for the last 5 months.

So yeah, those players you've mentioned answer plenty of questions

Doku hasn't answer the question if he can kick a ball straight more than once or twice every few months yet.
