It was very high up but it was from a set piece. So the whole backline except Walker was up around the box.
Fair, it was from a set piece, but I do think there were a few opportunities to stop it the attack- Doku missed the tackle/loose ball, Ake hesitated a bit, Walker and Dias weren’t great. I’m just saying there were a few things that went wrong, it wasn’t solely him.

We all see different things, I think he’s a bit of a cart horse who can’t defend, and gets caught up the pitch way too often when he’s on the left, but has potential as a midfielder.
Certainly agree with the swap with Ake though.

yeah i agree

and Ake was asking for the ball. i guess it would be hard for josko to deny him.

Quality touch and very technically proficient. Would love for him to bury one of these shots, as I think he deserves a goal for his forward play.

Had a solid 7/10 first season, imho, but it’s not over yet!

He literally wins every 1 vs 1 defensively (saved us in extra time vs Almiron in the 1st half, for example). He shows it every week as well. If anything, his positioning can be occasionally off from the left-back position, but that will come in time.

He’s a brilliant player, would love to see him thrive in the middle of defence, probably will next year. Tough gig on the left as I prefer Ake there.
I think it's because of his passing ability (and attacking in general). We would be praising the likes of rodri, kdb or foden if they played some of the line breaking passes he does. I would blame pep for his defensive difficulties since he's told to go so much forward.

I think that he will be a beast once stones comes back, since gvardiol can be in a back three in a build up with stones going to midfield.

Also, I agree that it would be nice to see gvardiol at centreback, however, I feel like pep trusts ake more and at left back you can get away with a bit more defensively whereas a mistake in the center is a goal.

"a bit of a cart horse who can’t defend"

Are you new to this club?

A gripe for the three Gvardiol fans on this page. Listened to a City podcast this morning (why?, most of the time these leave me irritated). According to the hosts, Gvardiol apparently “still doesn’t get it” and “needs coaching.” They referenced Pep giving him instruction during and after the Newcastle game. He’s one of the youngest people on the team - why is the fact he needs coaching a negative?!? Meanwhile when Bobb, who’s only 18 mos younger, gets coaching it’s because “Pep realizes how important he is.” (And Bobb probably needs less coaching because he’s far more familiar with the system being an academy kid). The same thing happens to Doku. When he was playing well, it was all “look how young he is.” But after not playing as well, suddenly no mention that he might need some time to mature/grow into the team.

I think he's been an excellent signing and is already showing why he's so highly rated. He's not come in and performed consistently well defensively, but his future position simply has to be left centre back with the ability to slot into midfield. His technical ability and passing on the ball is fantastic. He's strong and has brilliant vision. Sometimes he's slightly caught out in the left back role, but when we're chopping and changing lineups and you are new to a league and a system it's inevitable to have shaky moments. There's nothing I see from him that can't be fixed and at 21 so much more to come.

If they're right, I'll tell you what, when he does 'get it' fucking watch out.

I said earlier, a 21 yr old playing in the best team in the world in his first season in the PL getting picked regularly by the world's best manager and our own fans are questioning his abilities.

Strange people on here, very strange

I can see his mistakes but I can see his quality also. I guess that comes with being 21 in your 1st season in one of the most demanding leagues in the world and under one if not thee most technically demanding manager in the world.

No problem, double retribution for the idiots questioning this outstandingly talented player.
8-)
I agree
Also
Most our goals conceded are scored because we get caught up the field attacking with our defenders and midfield joining in. This also is one of the main reasons we dominate possession and have won more trophies in the last 10 plus years than any other team in the prem.
