27 | Matheus Nunes - 2024/25

His performances have been acceptable of late, today he was back to his usual soft arse ineffective rubbish after about half an hour.
He’s nothing special and never will be. Done alright recently and has been playing just because of injuries

Not our level.

Period....

Playing OK isn't enough for City and with that kind of approach, we would have never won PL titles and CL.
One good dribbling here and there and stuff like that, isn't enough to be considered worthy of City's level.

I remember kids like Palmer and Ocar (not even mentioning Phil) making debuts and playing better than this guy, but they were 18/19/20 years old and he is 26 or 27.

We are wasting time here, of course he isn't "Kalvin Phillips Bad" which means that at least we will get some money, but fore sure he should be sold.

Standard is that you should be best or one of the bests on your position to be playing for City's first team.
And bench player should be playing at least like Doku, Kovacic, Akanji and Ortega are playing ie players who are very close to being one of the bests on their positions. Or at least have some future in you, like Oscar / Phil / Palmer and other ones had.

Matheus has neither, therefore he should be sold.

Otherwise this crisis will never be defeated.

Surely Pep and Txiki didn’t buy this guy to be played as a winger? Hadn’t seen him play there once before he came to us.

I think he’s a pretty good player and has been a standout in recent weeks but once Doku , Grealish and Bobb come back he won’t be a starter on the flanks.

I think he’s best in midfield and that’s where he should play but for various reasons Pep doesn’t think he’s good enough. He’ll be a good squad player anyway but I’d play to see him get his chance in midfield properly.

The reason he doesn't play in midfield is that he struggles in winning the ball back while defending and if there is like 50/50 physical duel for the ball, he always looses.

That tackle against Wolves was great, but one tackle in 10 games isn't enough for a midfielder.

The reason we struggle in midfield is because we lack fighters there, who can tackle and grab the ball from the opponents. That's why our pressing has become weak and opponents are able to pass the ball around.

I remember players like Jesus or even Julian Alvarez last season, they were defending and winning above mentioned duels like the decent level midfielders do.
