I think it was a very poor match by Ederson. Not only for the stupid penalty, but he was slow for some Brighton’s shots, and he barely deflected them

By the way, I really liked Brighton’s GK. Good shot-stopper, good sweeper, very good and confident with his feet, and has as much power as Eddie. There were some long balls that were like Eddie’s.
Robert Sanchez, David Raya and now Aaron Ramsdale are all more or less copies of Ederson's blueprint. Over the course of this season we will keep hearing about them

Yeah not sure everything is fine with him. Something looks off. Some of the saves were simple, but there was this hit from Troussard early in second half that he almost fumbled, went under his arm, and luckily the bounce was good enough to see it over. Two other occasions where his handling from shots straight at him was a bit odd. He hasn't looked himself. Same goes for the Liverpool game

A lot of this is explainable by the fact that long shots are generally easier to save, and City concede very few long shots because they have so much possession, with long shots usually being taken by teams that are trying to break through a deep block.

Conversely someone like Mendy faces a lot of shots from players like Dybala or Morata that are just speculative efforts in an attempt to break down Chelsea's thick defence.

Not to say Mendy isn't a brilliant 'keeper but that's a big chunk of the reason why Ederson's save percentage is so low. Most of the chances we concede are trickier saves than average.

Bellingham’s goal last season, and Messi’s this were shots from distance that were very saveable - Joe Hart loved them.

He’s like Victor Valdes, who also looked adequate in possession-dominant Guardiola teams, but I’d be willing to compromise some of the flair with his feet for a keeper with the capacity to make saves that you wouldn’t expect them to - I think that would be the difference in the Champions League, and also in the increasingly competitive title races.

Ffs how many times has he saved us. Who would you rather have ?
Not particularly often. Hugely overrated due to his phenomenal left peg and nonchalance. Yes he suits our style but as a shot stopper he’s very average. The scouse keeper is miles better for a start.

bizarre decision to dive in with that penalty. could have saved it as well. blame

I think he's better than Allison, he just seems to get excited and rssh when he has a bit to do....tbf it's probably boredom!
