I've no fucking clue what he was thinking with that free kick he came for, just a moment of sheer craziness nobody can explain. Should have been a foul and a booking, nothing more though. Also could have hurt ake.

Did nothing else wrong though, any other uncharacteristic bits of play were as a result of numerous dreadful passes to him. We all know his ability with his feet is outfield level but it's not an excuse for some of the balls played back to him today.

His passing is terrible when he’s rushing out to clear a ball. It’s almost totally random how he actually kicks the ball.

The total antithesis of his passing under no pressure.
Him rushing out has saved him from conceding a goal plenty of times and you can't really judge his passing as terrible under those circumstances.

I think calling it a pass is unfair, but where the ball ends up when he’s trying to lump it anywhere isn’t the best.

For someone totally unflappable when being pressed in the build up, it’s totally different when he’s not thinking about where he’s aiming the ball.

Ederson is incredibly decisive. Maybe too decisive. It is both his number one attribute and his biggest flaw. He makes his calls about 5 seconds before anybody even knows he has a call to make. And he never changes his mind once committed, not even slightly. Even when it seems so obviously like the wrong decision almost immediately. This is great for build up play because it makes him look completely unflappable. It’s less good when he’s deciding whether to come to meet the ball, because he doesn’t adjust on the fly even slightly and as you’ve highlighted the ball can therefore end up anywhere as a result.

To an outsider this is what makes him look totally unhinged. His brain is really quite unique in this respect. Scientists will be studying him for decades after he’s retired.

If I was an opposing manager, I’d be trying to put the ball over the top and landing 10 yards outside our area though. Whilst he’s decisive, something malfunctions when he’s at his max speed of 8mph.

100% agree but hesitancy in a goalkeeper is a major flaw , if not a fatal flaw.

Ederson as you quite rightly say makes a decision and executes it and pleasingly he is right a vast majority of times.

You’re right, it’s hard to remember too many errors of judgment that have actually led to a goal being conceded. Sometimes he has you panicking like fuck but the rate at which he gets away with it suggests that his approach works quite well.

Whereas you look at indecisive keepers and they’re leaking goals all the time.

It’s a much better problem to have.

Sometimes he's almost too brave for his own good and like you say there is no changing his mind even if its the wrong decision. I would rather he be ultra committed than caught in two minds though.

Was shit yesterday but has plenty of credit in the bank. Glad he had his 1 weird game in 10-15 yesterday when it didn’t really matter.

Decision making wasn’t all bad. He made sure he was outside the box before he challenged with his knob, so VAR couldn’t get involved.
