Good improvement from the lad last night. Think he was being written off a little too early by some because they want instant impact which is understandable. But the guys started 2 games in around 8 months of football because of injuries and the world cup. I think some need to remember ake being written off that first season because of injuries and was being touted as being sold. I think kalvin will come good in this team. Hes esentially back in preseason which is unfortunate for him.

It would also help getting mins in the premier league but he hasnt been able to do that because of our recent performances and inability to kill games off early.

Also remember rodri in his first season he wasnt great and was being called a down grade on ferna. Im in no way saying phillips will ever be rodris level but he will be a great back up to him given the time awarded to others in our squad.

We seem to forget it takes a year to settle in. AKE, JACK RODRI, CANCELO,MAHREZ, BERNIE ect all took a season to adapt so just a reminder to allow the lad time.

Hopefully we can kill games off earlier now where getting into a bit of rhythm and he can get some mins.

How are we going to get that when Rodri is needed in 90% of our games from here on in?

The only way he's going to get a run of games is if (heaven forbid) Rodri gets injured and is out for some time.

We may find that it's KP who's needed for 100% of our games from some point this season. Only then will we find out if he's up to the task.

He was garbage again. Totally lacking mobility and recovery speed.

Gets eased off the ball far too easily as well. Feel sorry for the lad he sticks out like a sore thumb in this team but realistically it was always going to happen these types of signing don't work.

Hopefully we can recoup the majority of the money back in the summer.
Yawn

I appreciate what you're saying here, but I just can't get my head round people thinking that it's perfectly acceptable to pay phenomenally high transfer fees and wages for players who need a year to settle in.

It's absolute madness. When it happens at other clubs, fans can't wait to mock their scouting / recruitment policy.

Great players hit the ground running.

Here are the players you could level your opening salvo at in their first season:

Stones.

Rodrigo.

Bernardo.

Grealish.

I've watched Philips' game in the past for Leeds and he was good then (often rushed back before fully recovered from injury) and now he's struggling with his game cos he's rushing the settling in period. He's trying to jump to his Leeds type influence but, as we all know, he's been injured so it's been a set back, so he's nervous.

I expect him to have shit loads flying around his mind when he steps on a field like whether the next knock/ challenge is an injury or a foul and how long out it may cost him if injured.

That's gotta be tough for him.

I would rather he grow into his City career by short game passing and positioning and expanding over time. We haven't bought him for numbers or for the hell of it and we can't legislate for how long players take to come from Guardiola's cocoon of schooling and fly as a beautiful player.

Get off the kid's back, let him get his rhythm and his confidence up and we'll see what he becomes.
