Says everything I need to know.

That's an absolutely pathetic response. MacTominay is a solid player who earns his place at club and international level. He's not 'great' by any means, but he works hard and makes a difference to his team.

Just because he plays for the rags doesn't automatically make him a worse player than any other. That's a childish, petty argument that shows complete disrespect for the game of football... small-time fan mentality.

He has the summer to impress Pep and then take his chance when he gets it.

He wont get another full season like this one that's for sure.

Kaz - come on.
MacTominay is bang average. You must really not rate Phillips.

Unfortunately, there's no such thing as a traditional 'preseason' any more. Just glorified tours and tournaments aimed at attracting more money rather than developing players.
It dep[emds a bit on whether or not there has been an international tournament or not. If there has been one too many of the players are coming back late. But the tours and tournaments are basically warm up games around which the training takes place and also gives the squad and new players time away together to bond and a bit of freshness because of new surroundings .Providing the tours have decent training facilities and some of the far east ones are probably not ideal I think they are not bad for pre season.

It's not Kaz, it's Lavinda!

I honestly think that MacTominay would be chosen ahead of Phillips if both were at the rags.

MacTominay offers more to the team he's in, albeit a poor one. He's frequently a stand out player in midfield, even alongside the likes of Casemiero.
Phillips offers very very little. He's not a game changer, and looks out of his depth at top level. I still can't believe he gets picked for England.

No criticism of Phillips per se, he's a solid professional. Im just giving my opinion on his ability to play at City's level.

Phillips at Leeds was a solid, hard working, strong in the tackle player and had an eye for a pass. Phillips has also proved himself at international level as well. Phillips is a better player than McTominay imo and like KP, McTominay would also struggle to adapt in a City side.

I'm not sure he'll get that,we need a player we can rely on.....its only by pure luck that Rodri has not had an absence. This fella was bought as security for such an event, but he isn't fit to lace Rodri's boots and it would have completely derailed us.

There are no signs, nothing even to grasp to.....that Philips is capable of deputising when needed.

Needs to go,and allow us the opportunity to find the player that can.

I agree that MacTominay would struggle at City. He's just another player who's not good enough for us. However, he has proved himself a decent player at PL level, and I can see him moving to a club like Newcastle or Spurs at some stage.

Phillips has proved himself in the Championship, but not in the PL (yet). As for international level, I think he looks no more than a typical English journeyman, like most Southgate selections.

Phillips would be a good fit back at Leeds, or at (say) Villa or Brighton. That's his level imo.
