It’s like being in the Rodri 2019/20 thread.

Even the same recycled criticisms.

- Too slow to play in the PL
- Doesn’t look after the ball
- Gets bullied
- Poor positioning
- Not fit to lace [current first choice]’s boots!

I’ll check back in October when you’re all pretending you knew he’d be great from the get go and laughing at the overreaction to his first start.
Rodri was too slow and shit to play against Oxford in his first season, never mind the Prem. At times he was bloody rubbish (as well as being very good at others, granted).

He’s worked incredibly on his physique, strength and pace since his first season. He’s a completely different athlete and player now.

We won’t know how good Phillips will be, so anyone saying stuff like ‘terminate his contract’ after one start for the club and a long time out injured need to have a word with themselves.

too early to judge but i think Lavia would have shown the same level for zero transfer fee, lower wages & higher fan identification..& if Lavia would have flopped at city the market for "Rodri back-ups" is better than for other positions...even Bellingham could get minutes in this role...unnecessary transfer in generel

Looked mentally shot.
The injury and subsequent criticism has clearly affected him.
If he's mentally shot he should get another profession.

Injuries happen and he has plenty of experience of those and if he can't look after himself he deserves criticism from one of one of football's great coaches.

Never really rated him when he was at Leeds but I think City were desperate for a fernandinho replacement so they panicked and bought the lad. Really hope the guy can turn it around and show he belongs at this level. I will give him the benefit of the doubt because of his injuries but he needs to step it up.

bit unfair to critisise him last night as i did because the whole team played shit
however its his creativity that concerned me last night, there was a few times when he had the ball with no one near him and he still prefered to take a easy five yard pass to the nearest player instead of a forward pass or carry it forward.
looked out of his depth last night and i hope pep doesnt play him sunday.

Hahaha I hate to be proved right but how do you feel now? Phillips does not fit our system and isn't good enough.
Off of his first start in 7 months playing with a cobbled together mess? Settle down fella, you haven't been proven anything yet. The only thing you've proven is a limited understanding of the game. Phillips may or may not succeed in the long run but last night only proves he's currently quite a ways away from his best.

Zero chance he will play at the weekend (Sat not Sunday) To be honest I can’t see him playing very often at all. He has clearly pissed Pep off and if Pep stays then unless Phillips starts ripping up trees in training then he won’t be risked and certainly not in any game of importance, which they all tend to be at this stage of the season.

Was there not better options out there than a slow, injury prone and technically limited Phillips?
