what got me last night only on for few minutes but ortega had the ball looking for pass phillips was hidding behind the striker instead of moving into space

At present he has no idea how to move into space which is hugely concerning.

In a Leeds side he probably had to be more reactive but when required to think about where he should be moving to it's just not there. He's a statue at times, often watching the game and forgetting his part in it.

I said last month I'm the guy who has slated Gundogan(as a 6 mind you), Rodri and Ake in the past and the one thing those 3 have shown is some players absolutely need a run of games to find their footing in this side. Phillips won't get a chance now but next season he'll have to go again.

I noticed that. Sometimes though - and I don't know if this was the case here or not - the player may deliberately hide so that they are then available for the next pass. He may have been hoping it would go wide then into him after. Possibly.

I just don't think he's good enough. Since the world cup, and it's been a few months since then he would've had the time to get his weight and other stuff back in order but he still can't get a game or regular sub minutes that are of any note. I guess im just resentful of the fact that because of him, rodri cannot get any rest in this key part of the season because he's just so shite. If rodri gets injured then it's all his fault.

You sound about 10. Firstly slagging him off for smiling. Now blaming a potential Rodri injury on him. If another player deliberately breaks Rodri’s ankle (god forbid) are you blaming that on Kalvin?

Kind of agree, but we don't know all the details of what's gone on with Phillips, so that might be a bit harsh.

I do still expect him to go in the summer, but will support him until then. Even if it's 15 mins here and there, he needs to be good for that amount of time. I think he's capable of that.

I've learnt not to judge players too harshly on their first seasons under Pep, particularly when those seasons are marred by big injuries and disruptions.

Has Kalvin made any positive impact during his time with us so far? Sadly not. But that doesn't mean he never will. As others have said, the likes of Ake had minimal impacts early on and grew into game-winners.

I'm confident Kalvin will stick around at least a year to have a proper go of it, and I can only wish for him to succeed, as I feel we all should. He's our player, and unless he spits on the badge or disgraces the club, he deserves support.

He was brought in for a reason, and whatever some may say, he is a talented lad. He absolutely ran games for Leeds and hasn't looked out of place in one of the best England squads for decades either. He's also a nice and decent fella by all accounts, and Rodri deserves more rest time, so I truly hope Kalvin can step up.

If he can't, so be it. It'll go down as a bad move all around, but I don't think we're anywhere near that point yet and it's on Kalvin to step up, work on himself during the summer, and come back ready to fight next season.

Look, we all know when kalvin was bought from leeds, he was looked at as the rotation option for rodri and potentially even to push for a starting spot. Till now it hasn't happened. Rodri keeps playing game in game out clocking in the minutes. You only need to look at him when he was subbed to see the guy is absolutely knackered and at his limits. We also saw signs of fatigue back against bayern munich.

If Rodri gets injured due to overwork and gets injuries like strains, hamstring etc.. Then yeah, im blaming kalvin. I'm not even seeing him come in and start in lesser matches or get substantial sub minutes in the place of rodri. At the moment it's basically Rodri or bust as he's so instrumental to our team and so if rodri is injured then the situation becomes really difficult.

I quite liked him laughing about the fact he was coming on for about 30 seconds.

He seems a good lad, he's had an awful season and he's not been anywhere close to what we need. But we'll either sell him in the summer, or we'll keep him and if it's the latter it will be because Pep feels he can perform given time and I'm not going to doubt Pep on that. So far it's been a concern because there's been no effort coupled with a real lack of understanding of the role. But we'll still get a decent fee if we sell him or we'll get a decent squad player next season hopefully. Shame he's not been more useful this season, would be able to wrap Rodri up a bit for the CL or know we could throw him on to help see a game out, alongside Rodri. But it's clear Pep doesn't trust him at all.

Likewise but with the likes of Rodri,Gundo,Stones,Grealish etc there were flashes of skill and quality.Phillips has shown nothing yet.I am willing to reserve judgement hopefully a full preseason with Pep will sort it.
