40% City fans

the real difference between blues and rags is blues have supported their club for all of their life and most rags have supported theirs since 1992
a high percentage of the rags were liverpool fans in the eighties and that why they dispise each other now.
and where I live is blue and always has been

This is just for the City of Manchester...suprisingly City have plenty of season ticket holders in Central(Ancoats etc) and Beswick etc..in fact more than United. Obvioulsy a lot of people in inner city areas struggle to find £500 like Fallowfield red mentioned...wealthier areas have more season ticket holders..like Stockport and Trafford!

The "This Is Our City" slogan is spot on then, nice one, good post! i like seeing facts and figures!

Thats only half the picture...this is a list of the wards thruout greater manchester which have the most City season ticket holders:

The cold truth ......even around Old trafford its full of City season ticket holders...they dont like it up em!

The reason Utds support is nationwide derives from the Munich disaster. When Utd played their 1st game after it people travelled from all over the country to give them support and
show respect including thousands of City fans.City were allways the top club in Manchester and the best supported in general . For some reason these fans (not City) then carried on
with their allegiance to the rags. This created a bigger divide between Utd fans and City
as City fans were all local people at the time ,a terrotorial thing evolved which also lead
to City fans naming rags as "Munichs" (Munich sympathisers).
This is probably why City have a bigger % of SC holders in Manchester.

Oh and don't forget you RED BASTARDS if it wasn't for City you wouldn't exist.
We stopped another club in Manchester from putting you out of business.
Also your grounds in Trafford so FUCK OFF

Does that mean we buy titles then.

As for the debt I don't know how we're paying it off. Maybe it all will go t1ts up for us. If it all ends tomorrow though I would look at as i've watched my team be one of the most successful club teams in the world and seen some of the best playesr in the world play for the club I love and think myself really lucky that i've seen that in my lifetime.

My Grandad said that about City after we won the 1934 cup final. .........A lot of things have happened since then. Maybe in the future my grandson (if I 'm lucky) will be saying the same thing about City.

'Rag' here, but I'm not here to take the piss, just state a few facts. That map meen fuck all as it just shows who has the most season ticket holders inside Manchester and obviously city are going to have more becuse their support is confined just in gtr manchester area whereas United have people from all over the country buying season tickets, plus our ticket prices are a lot higher and I don't think there's many lads from the staunch red inner city areas like Ancoats, miles platting and collyhurst who can afford £800 a year.

In terms of absolute number of supporters, Manchester is overwhelmingly red and i'm glad to see some of you are finally starting to admit it.

Why are you on here ?

I wouldnt dream of joining a rag site, i would sooner cut my testicles off, fry them in lightly salted butter and feed them to my dog than do what you have done.

Well we get plenty of city coming on fred and red issue so you must be a top blue.
Don't believe you.

Bah, who cares. The majority of their plastic fanbase is built on recent success. If we win the league next year and for the next 9 years after that I doubt they'll be many stretford united fans left.

You've only got to look to their UEFA game against Torpedo Moscow in 1992 (when they hadn't won much for a while); less than 20k turned up. Huge local fanbase indeed.

This isn't a dig, just thought I'd throw my twopenneth in.

Measuring support between United and City these days is a waste of time. Football has changed (for the worse in my opinion) immensely and both clubs have changed. United are no longer a club for the community of Manchester, they don't need to be. City really try and encourage the youth of Manchester with lower prices and they can do this through availability of tickets (again, not a dig, there's nothing wrong with this). Who knows...maybe in 20 years when investment has led to success City will cut ties with encouraging young lads to the ground. Imagine signing a prolific Chinese goalscorer....if hoards of Chinese City fans were suddenly queuing up to go to COMS in their thousands would City turn them away in favour of keeping tickets back for Locals? I don't think so! Money talks and City is ran like a business just as United are. Forgive me for being cold-hearted but the only reason City are so good with the community is because they need them to fill the coffers. I hope for your sake they don't lose sight of this if you become a top 4 club.

The only kids I see following United home and away these days are mainly only following United through family ties. Tickets for away games are near on impossible to come by and how many 17/18 year olds do you know who can afford £700 a year off their own back for home games?!

A good way of measuring overall Mancunian popular support is Derby games back in the 80's and early 90's, when there would be a lot of United fans all over Maine Road...So in a way I think United would have definitely got the better of it in those days. Things will change in the future maybe, but a lot of kids might well lose interest in football altogether unless they've got parents who are willing to take them.
