I thought he had a great game off the ball, not so good with it, which is unusual given it looks like he has the thing on a string most of the time.

I think Pep will be happier with that type of performance today than that vs Liverpool. Positionally he was sound and helped stop there counter attacking whilst also working his cock off.

Love him, such a brilliant player. Hope he stays with us for many years to come. Tonight I think he slipped and fell about 3 or 4 times. Not sure why.
Studs issue? His work rate was excellent this evening but end product not great. However, there is evidence he is being targeted which creates space for others. Sterling seems to be getting a little more space on his wing and Gundo is exploiting gaps created more centrally.
If Phil can improve just a small bit each year he will be some player when he is 24 or 25.

I think that will be the case too. We are a little short of options with De Bruyne, Fernandinho and Gundogan out injured and Foden not really deemed ready yet for the centre. So maybe Cancelo plays there and Walker comes in to form a back 3 in possession with Zinchenko playing the Cancelo role but from the left.
Not sure how effective Cancello would be in a conventional midfield role. His amazing run of form has been based on breaking into space and playing passes while moving forward. Not sure he would be very effective when receiving the ball in tight spaces with his back to goal. But I expect Pep will be the one to decide whether that would be the case or not.

He’s not ready yet so he plays him wide. He was not quite right first half against the dippers but superb out wide. I think he will do what Gundogen is doing now in a couple of years as he has the ability but just needs the experience. Pep knows best funnily enough.
Yes partially, but Phil plays out wide because of all our players, he's the best option out wide atm. It used to be Mendy wide left which would invert Foden. This hasn't worked so Pep wants the wingers wide now with Zinch inverting at LB. Sterling and Phil are the best options to provide the width.
If we are short options in the middle Phil can play there and Torres can go to the wing. Foden is a goal scorer and Pep knows that so he keeps him up top as much as possible. As why he's played the false 9 as well. He could so what Gundogan does if needed, but we still have Bernardo who can sit a bit deeper and help progress the ball along with Cancelo and Zinch while Phil stays higher in attack.

A quieter game than usual but still very influential and hard working,we always look and flow better with him in the side.

And always capable of game changing brilliance.

Right on. Just to point out, David Silva also started out from the wings. For a natural attacking midfielder like Foden to move comfortably into central midfield like Silva did, probably requires a certain footballing maturity. Whichever the case, Foden is in excellent hands under Pep.
