I’m a big fan and always defend him but he is offering very little at the moment and might be worth dropping him to get some fire and hunger back into him

I worry about Phil because it feels like he is becoming a robot in the system. He is at his best when he just plays. That means off-the-cuff stuff. At the moment it’s all very structured and for whatever reason our wide men seem to suffer more than most in this system. I’m tired of seeing our wide men get the ball, stop and pass backwards.

If foden suddenly started making these constant, low-success, high-intensity ASM style runs he'd be dropped for Grealish in minutes.

Honestly this thread is more of a "I don't like how Pep uses Foden" thread than a "Foden Performances" thread.

Nah I do get that, but I think as fan we have to bear in mind what the actual instructions from the manager are.

You'd think Foden had gone completely off the rails Alli style from these comments, not just taken on a more selfless wide-playmaker role.

Strangely subdued performance from him today. Seemed reluctant to take on Cash despite having him on toast in this fixture in previous seasons. When Young came on I thought Phil would have a field day but he seemed to go even more into his shell, however, I think all the shouts of him regressing are just a bit premature!

Never thought a 37 year old Ashley Young would have Foden in his back posket , but he did , was rubbing my hands when the old Rag came on as substitute but Foden got virtually nothing out of him , but Phil was just one of many who under performed.

Let's not make him a whipping boy eh? He's had a few bad games but he's far from alone. As someone else mentioned, kev was stinking the place out at one point last autumn. Foden is also a lot more exposed than de Bruyne at a similar age, who was only just joining Chelsea in a failed move

He doesn't dribble past his fullback constantly and make things happen
He doesn't run his socks off for the team
He can't dictate the tempo of a game
He's not rapid
He doesn't have the vision to pick out passes others don't see

None of the above is drasitcally going to change either. He's likely one of those players that have reached their peak early and people are frustrated with what they believe he could be rather than accepting this is simply just what he's actually capable of.

We have had four years of brilliance from Phil , idiots on here over reacting to few under par performances need to go and f*ck off , he's a relatively young player still learning the game and has been asked to play in several positions to help the team and to the detriment of his own game.

Can't play him in there yet because according to Pep he need to slow down and dictate tempo. He can't just upping the tempo be aggresive constantly playing in midfield or it will risk losing possession and getting counter attack on there.

If he didn't learn it then there's no chance he will get to play midfield this season.
