Got a lot of backs up buy no-one has an actual counter argument.
5 season in the first team so the young player excuse doesn't fly.
His numbers are worse than the likes of Saka and Mount.
He's a good player don't get me wrong, we just overrated his potential. It's not that deep.
Let's see the "numbers" i am calling bullshit

It probably stems from the notion that he was meant to be a special talent. When the reality is he's not. He's a good technical premier league winger with no truely outstanding attributes.
He doesn't score a lot
He doesn't assist a lot
He doesn't dribble past his fullback constantly and make things happen
He doesn't run his socks off for the team
He can't dictate the tempo of a game
He's not rapid
He doesn't have the vision to pick out passes others don't see

None of the above is drasitcally going to change either. He's likely one of those players that have reached their peak early and people are frustrated with what they believe he could be rather than accepting this is simply just what he's actually capable of.

I was coming on this thread to have a pop at him for a very poor performance, then I see this.

Utter shite and I'm abit annoyed I've bitten by responding!

He's quality and potential is sky high... he needs to have the mentality to improve on nights like tonight tenfold though.

Always has been a full time winger. Another tired excuse
He's been a winger since he broke into the starting XI because Sterling was woeful that last two years. Before that he was ALWAYS an attacking midfielder. The fact he's done so well out on the wing despite never playing there before speaks volumes to the kind of player he is.

Tired excuse? What the fucks the matter with you? He’s playing a different role, maybe not positionally but certainly in the way he’s being asked to perform.
You’re one miserable ****.

The excuse being everytime he has a bad game people say well what do we expect he should be played in the middle....DESPITE NEVER FUCKING PLAYING ANY MEANINGFUL AMOUNT OF GAMES IN THE MIDDLE.

people here are underestimating his lsck of a proper first team pre season. Thats why he has look a bit out of sync at times imo

A season of playing the false 9 did nothing for him. He still hasn't nailed down a proper starting position. Seems to me like he's been flat lining for 18 months. For a player of his outstanding talent to have such a limited impact on games is a real waste.

They are obviously talking about his position at academy level. When he broke into the first team, he had too many players ahead of him to get into midfield. He's had a long time to learn the left winger role now, sure enough(valid point) but that doesn't mean it's his best position.

edit: Thought I'd give you a proper response because I do see some of your arguments even though I don't agree with the "Saka and Mount are better" end goal you seem to have. He's not been at his best for a while now IMO but his ceiling is still much much higher than those players. Hope he turns a corner and gets back on track soon.

Strange his form started to dive ever since we signed that waster Grealish who he's been hanging out with

I'd argue we're not getting the best out of him currently.
Clearly been told to hug that left touchline over everything else. I'm sure when he broke through he was given the type of freedom Alvarez showed midweek.
Our rotation tonight was pretty poor though as well

It's only been 6 games but so far his numbers are better than both of them:
1G 3A Foden
0G 2A Saka
0G 0A Mount

I thought he did quite well in the false 9. He scored a few crucial goals when we won 1:0. In my opinion he is wasted in this position when the game is static. He is not Mahrez or Bernardo and he is much better when he receives the ball when running. He still managed to produce a few assists for Haaland. But I am not sure Pep cares what we think and it might be he still doesn't trust him to play him centrally.

No - he was shoehorned in as a false 9 and was totally unsuited to it. Playing with his back to the goal with no space to operate - his talents totally stifled. He is better playing deeper, more centrally, where he gets on the ball and can make things happen. Whatever you and I think, one thing is true - the most gifted player of his generation is having a very limited impact in the games he plays in.

This is nonsense.

Phil's an adult professional who's responsible for his own actions on and off the pitch.
His record would suggest otherwise. The infamous Iceland trip with England springs to mind. What happened to his mate Mason Greenwood??
Grealish and Foden is an ‘off field disaster in waiting’.
Zero maturity and 100% infantile unacceptable behaviour to be expected.

Hahaha fucking hell, Grealish getting slagged and blamed for a completely different person being on a run of indifferent form
His haters are nothing if not relentless, I’ll give them that
