So from what I can see here.

1. The United player has absolutely no chance to shoot, so not comparable to Phil who had an opportunity.

2. The United player slowed down leading up to the ball unlike Phil who was at top speed running towards it.

3. The United players pass nutmegs the Liverpool defender (which is pretty lucky), and he had 3 options in the box, unlike Phil who had one.

This is just getting embarrassing from this forum honestly.

Phil in an instant has to pick between 2 valid options, and perhaps picked the wrong one, but given how often he scores from the left and the fact that it's on, and considering I can see him thinking he can't make the pass come off... I'm thinking yeah, let's back the fuck off him for this action.
There you go.

If his recent performances had been flawless then I agree criticism would be unjustified. But they haven’t been.
Posters can still be happy to bits that he plays for us, cheer him on at the match, but also after the game reflect on his performances on here and make some critical comments as well as positive ones.
Just because he’s a wonderful young talent for club and country, who supports the club, shouldn’t mean that critical comments are a non-starter. It shouldn’t be an either/or situation.
That's true, but some on here take it way too far.

Am not convinced Phil is a natural LW..neither is Jack. He seems better playing more centrally..He is more a David Silva than a Sane. We need a natural LW, but then the midfield gets overloaded with Phil Jack Kevin Gundog Bernie Rodri and Phillips. I know Pep likes playing players perhaps out of their natural position, but it does not always work out.Pep has to make do with the squad he has, rotate, and equally look to the future, not an easy job.

My take on the non pass saga, its not that he couldn't pass because the defender was in the way, he could have tried to get around the defender, made an angle for the pass, give the defender something to think about, or maybe even attempt to take the defender on to make a better angle for the shot.
Think people are missing the bigger issue here

Really he’s been Leroy’s replacement and is comparable. I’m just disappointed that despite the obvious physical development he has made he hasn’t accelerated in numbers and consistency from where he was 2 years ago. He perhaps could have been as guaranteed a starting place as De Bruyne and Rodri by now and he isn’t. just another forward to rotate.

Should we compare him to messi?

Speed - yes
Dribbling - yes
Wrong foot - maybe not
Shooting ability - yes
Skills - yes

Pep said he was as talented and even tried to play him in the false 9 at a similar age.
Unbelievable if u think that Foden is anywhere near Messi. What am I reading here?

Guess we've found our new scapegoat then. This place never ceases to amaze me
scapegoat
noun
1.
a person who is blamed for the wrongdoings, mistakes, or faults of others, especially for reasons of expediency.

Yep truly amazing that our players have risen to a place where criticism is banished for fear of pissing people off, its a forum ffs the clue is in the name

Criticism is fine, he’s not firing on all cylinders and definitely needs to up his game but posters on here have a habit of going way overboard and don’t seem capable of a bit of constructive criticism instead going straight to the twilight zone and making up weird shit like he doesn’t like Haaland or is jealous of him? I mean, there’s crazy then there’s batshit crazy.
We had somebody calling him a prick and another saying he’s no business playing for City.
That’s what needs to stop, not the general comments about him not being at his best.
I’ll never stop defending a lad who’s as blue as they come playing for us and having the potential to be one of our very best.
I suppose we all see our roles differently when it comes to supporting the club

The instant unjustified criticism of Phil by some on this forum is bizarre and frankly embarrassing. The best young talent in English football who is a blue playing in the best team in England and still they are not happy. Shakes head in bewilderment.

It's not bewildering - we want Foden to be the best player he can be and so he will be criticised if people don't feel he's maximising his talent. He's a guy that could be our greatest ever player but we've seen so many young players plateau and none of us want that to happen. When Foden makes errors, he'll get called out. We can't just give him special treatment because he's a blue.

Needs to be constructive. Sometimes it's OTT, very OTT

Ofcourse but I don't think that's different for any player. Could you imagine if Mahrez or Sterling didn't square that pass? We love Phil but I think we all want to see him take that next step this season.
If people were capable of posting that without the added hyperbole then this thread would be about 25 pages less.

He's 22 and that's right about the age where a lot of good players think they've succeeded and stop doing what's needed to stay at the top and on TV they always hear (the instant football experts just add water) talk about what could have been with Balotelli, Dele Alli, Jack Wilshere, Michael Owen etc.

I don't think there is a person here who would like Foden to fail.. we're all City fans after all!

The TalkSport effect. Perspective and measured takes are boring now apparently. Vitriol or immense praise. Nothing in between.

Without hyperbole, arguments going round in circles, and repetitive dumb jokes this forum would have 500,000 posts, not 13,500,000
