Best first touch in football is a bit over the top, ffs is much better for one
Riyad’s first touch is wonderful but it is not much better than Phil’s. He had a number of sublime first touches tonight. The way he can take the ball on the turn is breathtaking.

No other English players can do that. He can get defences on the back foot be running at them before they can set themselves, because he's already received the ball, turned and is running at them before they know it.

I know it's not an England thread but I believe any good manager would look at the options England have and have Foden as your 10, Bellingham as an 8 where he can still get forward and Rice holding. Kane up top.

It's criminal if the team isn't built around that.

Completely agree.
Having Foden as #10 would set up Bellingham with even more goals with his razor-quick thinking and pinpoint passing.
Unfortunately, Southgate hasn't got the nerve to play the 2 "youngsters" together.
Also, it would take the focus away from King Harry Kane - so will never happen...

Two excellent performances from him and there will not be a single England fan out there who doesn't think he should start in the middle now. Southgate tried it, he impressed...it's whether he has the faith in the defensive players to allow Phil and Bellingham to start together. And I can see why he wouldn't want to do that when he has Maguire as his most trusted option. As an aside, I was impressed with Guehi. A shame we'll probably not see him and Stones have enough time to mould a partnership before the Euros.

Totally agree. Southgate's persistance with two holding midfielders is going to cost England dearly.

Foden and Bellingham are both capable of dropping back and tackling people when the need arises.

Foden getting time to grow into the game instead of been made to play all the time comes to mind. If a young player is given time they are bench player. Short term thinking killing the game with young players being overplayed such as Pedri and Gavi at Barca.
