A striker in January

What does everyone think of Benteke. I think he would add a lot, and is the right type of player to replace Negredo. And he is still young.
FFS guys, our best strikr is already injury prone. We've already made the mistake of buying another injury prone striker to back him up. Why would we go out and get a third injury prone striker? That would be some serious poor management. We should be trying to offload Jovetic. Not buy another sick note.

Oh yes you are right, Benteke is a fine striker :)

Ha. Cheers. Tell us how you really feel.

Seriously I think it is a little of an overstatement to say he is injury prone. A ruptured Achilles is much different than a constant muscle injury.

I also think it is too early to rule out Jobetic.

I don't.
The lad seems like a nice guy, and when fit he's a good footballer, averaging one goal every three games over the past five, six years. Not bad at all.
But since his arrival here, at 2013, he has 31 appearances all in all, (Aguero for example, also with quite a lot of injuries, has had 54) many of which are subs.

We paid £20mil for him, and I doubt his value will have risen these past 18 months. But maybe we could get something similar from an Italian club this summer?

But back on topic; strikers in January:
Does anyone knows about Jesés situation at Real? Young, versatile and very gifted. Could he perhaps be loaned "with an option to buy"?

No chance, unfortunately. Real won't sell him - at least not now. He's their new rising star/golden boy from their academy, and they have big hopes for him. Would love him here, though - great player.

Real are awful at holding on to their academy players, I am sure he can be bought for the right price.

No idea if already been done, but I'll wrap this all up for everyone.

Get Benteke, sell Dzeko & Jovetic at the end of the season.

I know Villa's fans don't want to sell, but Lerner will do it anyway. Sure we'll face competition, but only Chelsea could offer real competition and they've got Costa.

Wait and we'll have to put up with competition from Utd & Liverpool.

And I'll add that - if we get Benteke in January - not only would we turn over Barca (if we can work him into the squad), but we'll also win the PL.

Welcome to the forum Christian!

Could we get over Benteke please... he is an extremely ordinary striker performing well in a weak team. The like of which we've seen a million times (Michu). He can't pass and is technically limited. He is strong and has a good shot, but Bluemoon savages Dzeko when moves break down because of him and he is a much better player than Benteke with experience in big situations. Put Benteke in our regular situation of playing in tight spaces with quick passing needed and he'd be infuriating.

Now Bony has similar flaws but is better and if we're going to take one of these "main man in weak team" punts on a striker, he would be a better choice. With Bony going to AFCON and us looking like we may successfully grind our way through this injury crisis, perhaps it'll be best to just hold back and wait to see what is available next summer. There are Champions League strikers who could become available next summer or promising strikers who clubs are reluctant to let go of right now (like Paco Alcacer who has the right skill set for a team like City).

Can I have a pint of what you are on please.
