Adam Wharton

I was on about Dibling, I'm sure either of our lads I mentioned could have similar impact given the minutes. I agree O'Reilly isn't a 6 but Wright looks a perfect fit in that role. Dibling isn't a defensive midfielder either he plays on the wing. I was comparing more their age profile.

I also think Wharton would struggle if we intended to play him as a lone defensive midfielder. They are big shoes to fill for a 20 year old new to the team and I've not seen nearly enough evidence of his defensive abilities to be confident he could do the job. You sign Wharton for his ability to play passes through the lines at a quick one touch tempo, that's what I've seen from him that sets him apart and caught my attention as a potential top class midfielder.
Dibling is an obvious talent, but we need to focus our wide recruitment of players that score and make goals. They need to be more established too, for me.

Yeah we can't replace Kevin de Bruyne and Bernardo Silva from the bargain bin I completely agree. These guys have been consistently top 10 midfielders in the world for the best part of the decade. It's going to cost a lot of money but that's the point of all the caution in the last few windows hopefully.

I don't get the logic of swapping one squad player for another. As much as we are thin on numbers I don't think we are desperate.
I can't say I've seen much of Wharton, but by all accounts, he's running the show over at Palace at the age of 20. This isn't a squad player, it's a squad player with the potential to become a starter at a top club. Compare that to McAtee, who's getting a bit old to be a talented youngster and still isn't getting the game time despite our injury woes. He spent last season as part of one of the all time worst Premier League teams after doing pretty well in the Championship, which probably gives an idea of his current level.

And crucially, both were arguably world class when we bought them. KDB certainly was.

Not suggesting not to bring him in along with a couple others in the summer but still not worth gambling mid-season and we really we have to start targeting better players if we are to really improve our midfield

Agree. We have bags of young talent in wide areas. Bobb, savinho and doku. We could do with a mahrez style signing when we got him. Someone already putting up the numbers. We’re desperate for goals from our wide players.

We need to start supplementing the youth policy with established talent. We’ve gone a bit arsene wenger in our buying.

Yeah, Wharton is a long-term one for me. You don't bring in some 20 year-old kid to start for the best team in the world and hope he's going to save your season.

He’s only 22 isn’t he? KDB and others were no where near as good when they were younger and wouldn’t get into our side. I also wouldnt judge a player because he was in a poor side.

I was told by a Blackburn fan while still there that he's like a cross between Barry and Carrick, he's definitely impressive and a good talent that's for sure.

My main worry with him though is he might not quite be ready for us if we choose to sign him but that's part of the gamble, he's going to either us the rags or the dippers based on form since joining or maybe even Arsenal or Newcastle, can't see Chelsea going in for him with the amount of players they have but Newcastle if they sell Bruno could be a destination.

I can't see him staying at Crystal Palace much longer though which is a shame as it'd probably be the best place for his development, I'll be surprised if he isn't a relative success though regardless of how good he's going to be, he's already a mid table Prem player and he should've been in ahead of that rag Mainoo for England during the summer.

Had Adam Wharton joined the rags when he left Blackburn then there's no doubt that he would've been, personally I'd prefer Zubimendi and Ederson (Atalanta) if we can get both of them, as I believe that Ederson's physicality/athleticism is exactly what we need right now.

Both Wharton and Zubimendi are less mobile than him but Wharton is still improving as opposed to Zubimendi being ready made, we seriously need someone to put the hard yards in for our midfield I'd love us to get Ederson from Atalanta.
