Adam Wharton

The last time i watched him he was garbage, passes going astray, week in the tackle...its a no from me.
I agree I don't see it but a lot of people in pro football see a special talent, so what do I know!!

But as said before, there is no doubting the talent of these young English players but for me they lack football intelligence and maturity and that is something that no coach can teach.

I’m a big fan of Macatee but he’s isn’t really getting much of a chance and when he does he seems a bit cba.

The need for Wharton or a Wharton-y player is greater than the need for a Macatee atm.
He's not good enough for that side and never will be

I think in reality Palace overpaid, but I must say he looked very good for them during that little purple patch they initially had under Glasner, but if we want him and especially us, in reality it’ll be £60m unless they are happy to take McAtee with a bit on top as I’ve seen rumoured.

If it was £35m or so plus McAtee I’d be tempted to straight fee of ~£60m not for me as that no doubt buys a very talented non English midfielder that I trust the club can search out.

This would be a project player and we desperately need a Mr. Right Now. It's Zubimendi for me. I would be happy with Wharton before Rodri got injured, as a Rodri backup.

Zubimendi is a class player but is he quick enough?

Him and Rodri together for me lacks athleticism , something we need so much.

A big no for me, another Rodwell/Phillips this one.

A talent without a doubt but like many of the English players not much between his ears in football intelligence.
I think that’s an outdated view. I’d argue English players, in particular in the younger age group are some of the most technically gifted and intelligent footballers around.

You only have to look at our own players. Foden, stones and Lewis are unbelievable intelligent football wise.

Pep and the club seem to rate him. Philips and Rodwell were injury prone as well.

I would say Foden, stones and Lewis are the exception, not the rule.

I would look at the likes of Rice, talented player but not an intelligent footballer, I would say the same with Bellingham.

It’s not the rule, but there are plenty of English players who are more than intelligent enough football wise to play for us. Some of our best players have been English. Look at the younger age groups and we’re dominating most sides.

Why would pep be interested if he thought he wasn’t technical enough.

Who?

Which English players are dominating and dictating the games of their teams.

We have seen it with the National side, in my lifetime without question technically the best players we have had but against the better quality Nations we get found out, for me it's footballing intelligence.

I was talking about the younger age groups. Over recent years the England u21,u19, u17 have been winning tournaments with technical players, with lots of football intelligence.

Should we just not sign any English players?
As I said foden, stones, walker, Barry and plenty of others have been amazing for us.

Wharton looks like a top prospect. Why compare him to players like Rodwell and Philips - two injury prone players and not to players like stones. Based on what your saying we wouldn’t have signed him.
