Adam Wharton

I was talking about the younger age groups. Over recent years the England u21,u19, u17 have been winning tournaments with technical players, with lots of football intelligence.

Should we just not sign any English players?
As I said foden, stones, walker, Barry and plenty of others have been amazing for us.

Wharton looks like a top prospect. Why compare him to players like Rodwell and Philips - two injury prone players and not to players like stones. Based on what your saying we wouldn’t have signed him.
Gareth Barry I will give you that, wonderful player.

Walker to me is the perfect example of a non football brain, a physical freak in size, speed and power but nothing upstairs.

He was the best right back in the world for a couple of years. That’s not bad for a player with ‘no brain’

This is where we must be a little more proactive then we have been in the previous years - ofcourse they are going to say no. They are in a relegation battle and it’s January.
And we can know their stance by calling them right now or sending the first offer on Jan 1 .
Hate to be another Rice, Bellingham or Bruno fiasco where we either think the player valuation is expensive and we won’t pay or the player has other offers he would rather take.

I've not seen anything from Wharton to suggest he's any better than someone like Kalvin Phillips or Maximo Perrone.

Tidy player who can put his foot in. I've never seen a pass, piece of skill or strike of the ball to suggest he's anything more than average or our level.

Feel free to call me out on this if he ever proves me wrong. I'd had similar feelings about Rice but he's not done too badly! Albeit he has a level of physicality I'm not sure Wharton will reach.

Perrone is actually pretty good.. don't dismiss that kid, I have a feeling he can make it with us.

Think people sleep on how good this lad is. The homegrown quota makes me think this is something City might do.

Wharton can actually break the lines and pass into tight spaces, unlike Rice

Perrone can also break the lines with a pass. I don't think that's enough. To play where we'd need Wharton you also have to have certain physical qualities.

The combination is hard to find. But let's see how he does after his injury he might kick on go up another level.
