Adam Wharton

I tried to keep an eye on him as it is the sort of role best appreciated at the game. But I really struggled to see what he brought. - he was lost as KdB and Gundo control from 20 minutes on. Didn’t see him making any impact when his team really needed him to calm our threats.

The thing we don't know if how good he'd be in the team which is having 68% possession instead of the one having 32%.

Think some of the "nowhere near our level" posts are way over the top though.

Any player who is playing regularly in a midtable PL team at 21 years old, is not way off our level. If they joined as a squad player and worked with Pep, how good could they be at 24?

Obviously I'm not suggesting all would definitely be a success, but he's a possible.

Maybe those that think not can say why? What about his game isn't up to it?

There was a passage of play where there was a lot of players to gather he got the ball passed it in an instant! You look for quick feet in midfield he has it and O'Reily is for me a bit to slow to get the ball out of his feet for a 6

That’s true, but O’Reilly is also significantly taller and more muscular. Always point out that the original post on this thread reported Wharton as a long-term prospect, which was only last summer, and nothing much has changed.

Oreilly is an 8 or 10....not a 6

Yeah think Wharton is 6 foot now maybe still has another year growing

He created the opening goal by dribbling past two and spreading it wide.

He’s very young, so not sure we expect him to be a seasoned professional just yet.
Agreed but to get him it will need a huge offer and with the number of players and quality of players we need can we afford to pay 60m for a player that needs a lot of time and work to become a regular?

He might prove good enough, but as we already have O’Reilly I think we’d be better off spending on absolute top class (Wirtz) and two full backs.

We can’t sign everyone, and I do think O’Reilly is already better than Wharton.

We’ve done it before…!

Homegrown players are going to be important this summer.

I don’t see why, the current homegrown list is
Carson, Ake, Stones Grealish. The only 2 I see being replaced are Grealish and Carson. Any other signings will go on the free list whether homegrown or not. ( unless they are ex club trained players).
Think Wharton may well replace Grealish not a clue who replaces Carson.
