Adam Wharton

Seriously..he's been excellent for us
Only you,Harvey price and stevie wonder thought this. Ridiculous statement. He's our best defender by an absolute mile

You both are very late to the party. I have since clarified my thoughts which are he is nowhere near an 80 million pound defender. Easily our best defender, not an 80 million pound one. Hope that clears that up.

Sometimes posts are on a while before I catch up on them mate..I'm not bothered what a player costs as I'm not paying it ..but I definitely think he's worth every penny..but not everyone will agree..that's the beauty of this forum..

Wharton is good, I'd be happy with us going for him. However, the more I see Elliot Anderson, the more impressed I am. I know we kept a close eye on Gibbs-White, hopefully we've moved on, but not very far.

He is by a mile on today's market, hope that actually clears it up.

P.s united signed Harry maguire for 85 million think it was 2019. That will definitely clear it up for you

Haha here we go, selective examples. Ok VVD was 75 and completely transformed Liverpools defence. Gvardiol is great but I haven't seen for one second him being a world class defender who will drag us through results. I lay that blame at Pep for playing him left back wrongly. He is a great player and I have no doubts that he will be and is our best centre back. 80 million he is not - currently.

Haha I know, was only joking. I was just surprised being quoted in a thread that I haven't been on for months. Exactly, you can think he is an 80m defender. I don't think he is, whilst acknowledging he is a good defender and hopefully a season being played in position will prove that further .

What position is Anderson playing these days? I watched him at Bristol Rovers on loan and he was class - but he was played more as a winger from memory.

He's pretty much been a number 8 when i've seen him recently. Don't think he has the pace or trickery for a top level winger, but he's got enough to play central, and decent vision too.

Really? I've not watched him too much, but I always thought he was more of a destroyer in the Nigel De Jong mould.

Yeah, that's what I thought at first too. Seemed headless and just smashed into people, but maybe I was just seeing how he played against us!

The last times I've seen him he has decent technique and is good at passing through the lines. Not sure about 'elite level', but a good age and homegrown, so wouldn't be against any move.

Im in this camp too. The lads displaying everything we are currently missing in midfield. He's just straight up better than Wharton who is neither mobile or physical enough to be effective in our side.

12 tackles in 3 games, whilst Wharton has 1.
89% pass completion > 81% Wharton
Take ons 6 > 3
Aerial duels won 7 > 1
Chances created 5 > 3

I think a left foot would help us more. Still think the premium signing would be Baleba but the price would be insane

Maybe the Etihad sponsorship deal can cover that. Or the Puma deal?

Not sure why we can’t go out and spunk £250m on just two players. PL seems ok with it.

Wharton is silky though and he always looks to play a quick forward pass, very impressed with his through balls, the anti Kovacic

Im still not sold on Baleba. Has some very good attributes but still too raw to warrant the money it'd take. Like he goes from looking superb one game to dropping an absolute stinker the next. We need off the bat consistency rather than another project.

We'd be better off getting someone from French League where all these midfielders seems to spawn from. Ayyoub Bouaddi? 17 years old, cut out the seagull badged middleman.

Oof I like him too, suggested him in the players who might improve us thread.

I see him settling into the 6 position now though, could be a nice Rodri understudy and rotation option.

I think Wharton would be up against Reinjders and Nico G for the 2 8 positions if we signed him.

Both great young English midfielders though in positions the nation has been light in producing for years now.
