Not his fault but he has played in a team and league where I suspect 95 percent of the teams drop off PSG.
Nice left foot similar to Matic in build, gait and passing range but, he is possibly a bit more of a dribbler.
He is however, similar to Matic in pace, possibly a touch faster but not significantly.
He is also a lot more attack minded than Matic but not to the extent that he is in nay shape or form superior or even equal to any of the players we have in are team who can play as a number 6 or 8.
There are two ways of looking at this.
1/ I argued a few days ago that I thought Fern was a bit if liability on Saturday from a creative perspective, he did not really offer anything.
Further if fit its arguable that a returning De bruyne would have come on for the last 20 mins in Ferns place against Wolves to bolster the need for more creativity on Saturday.
2/However, what I suggested a few days ago detracts from the selfless defensive side of Ferns game which when you view his performances as a whole are mostly always influential in giving are side balance and stability.
Looking at Rabiot he is no better from a creative perspective than the number 6's or 8's we have in the team and equally is not equipped to provide the defensive screen along the lines of Fern which despite the clamor for a deep lying playmaker, City do need need to rely upon at times in the Prem.
Therefore Im struggling to see or believe that the interest is genuine.
A signing like Rabiot would be such a departure from other players we have been linked with in his position, that in ability wise they have tended to be specialists or strong in at least one area of their game, ie Jorghinio with his passing.
This lad whilst ok is not significantly strong in any area. He's just ok and tidy.
In terms of ability its difficult to compare him due to a lack of definition or clarity about what it is he is actually good at or for that matter his most effective position.
What I am clear on though is that as mentioned above he doesn't offer anything over and above what we already have in the squad.
The only thing I can I surmise is that he may be tempting because he may be on a free, but with that in mind I dont think there is enough remarkable about his game to suggest that a sizeable signing on fee and lucrative contract would be a sound investment from footballing perspective.
I am hopeful that City are up to their games again and are simply agitating for Wolves or Mendes to come to the table sooner rather than later to discuss a possible transfer for Neves.
