An update. My friend’s parents have lodged a police complaint against the girl and her father. Her father is an ex-navy apparently who also had mental issues.

Interesting fact the Indian navy is 67k strong......which means a) it'd be hard to narrow the father down & b) they'd outnumber a crowd in normal times at the swamp.
