Alexis Sanchez

Have to say, been reading posts by you fine folk past week, and my god, never seen such low ambitions from a fan base of a club wanting to be as big as it gets.
Lads, Pep Guardiola has managed Bayern Munich which had an attack+mid better than anything we've ever had, or will after this transfer window.

It consisted of Lewandowski, Muller, Costa, Coman, Ribery, Robben, Thiago, Alonso, Vidal etc. If he can manage that lot, surely he can manage 3 kids in Raz, Gaby, Sane, (even Mbappe if that story has any meat), and 2 seniors in Kun and Sanchez.

It was clear as night and day that Sterling couldn't keep up for the whole season; Sane, who properly played for only half a season also dipped in form by the end of it. It's crucial to keep in mind the age and experience of most of these players. They're not of the calibre yet to be delivering multiple trophies by starting continuously in a season.

So yeah, let's not needlessly cry foul and exaggerate about playing time for players, particularly when we've gone 3 seasons without a serious trophy.
If Madrid can maintain a second team, and so can Bayern, then we ought to be able to do that too if we want to reach the same heights.

And we certainly can.
Well fuck. You've actually convinced me there.

Balls deep for Sanchez. If the kids or the old guard get sad or unhappy from lack of playing time, but we're winning, fuck it.

It's a dog eat dog world out there.

Assuming we sign Ederson, Walker, Mendy, Bernardo, Sanchez this summer and we generally play 4-1-4-1/4-3-3 variations

----Pos. (slots) --------------Players ------------------------ Versatile Players
FW (3) : Aguero / Jesus / Sane / Sterling ----- Bernardo / Sanchez
F8 -(2) : Silva / DeBruyne ------------------------ Gundogan / Bernardo / Sanchez
DM (1) : Toure -------------------------------------- Fernandinho / Gundogan
FB: (2) : Mendy / Walker ------------------------- Kolarov / Fernandinho
CB: (2) : Kompany / Otamendi / Stones ------- Kolarov
GK: (1) : Ederson / Bravo

The attack doesn't look as crowded given some of the versatility.

Bernardo, "Pep sees me on the right and in the middle"

Assuming you're not being sarcastic, then indeed, it is a dog eat dog world out there at the highest level of football. That's just the way life works, especially in industries where a huge amount of money is involved.

Just like at the highest level of Finance or Technology, Football is cutthroat at its highest level as well.

To us fans, of course, we have emotions involved with players etc., but I can't imagine the state a football club would be in if the manager and other high-ranking executives would also be prone to attachment.

The more ruthless our management, the better it will be.
You just need to look at Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Munich. They're unforgiving; they're the best.

Sorry but that's how real life works.

Bring Sanchez in and he starts every game he is fit - exactly as he does at Arsenal, therefore Sane is likely to miss out because there's zero chance of Pep dropping Aguero or Jesus when fit. So we are assuming that Sane will be happy to play in the cup games, the lesser league games whilst Sanchez plays the in 75% of the league games and all of the CL games (unless Sanchez gets an injury). Sane will be off like a shot and he will have his pick of clubs.

"who plays if Sane is injured and we don't sign Sanchez?" - Silva, Silva, Sterling, Jesus, KDB - any of them can fill in. Isn't the whole Pep philosophy that people can play across various positions?

There is no doubting that Sanchez is a great player but to bring him in and impede the development of what we already have is absolutely criminal.

But hey, if building a huge squad with two exceptional players in every position works for you on Fifa and Football Manager, I'm sure it will work in real life.
Dont you think the players know the score before signing the dotted line for us?

Good post pal. I supose the way to look at it is would Sanchez improve our squad. Undoubtedly. So if we can get him we should.

Top top post. Just take a look at RMadrid, they do what they do and win anyway so at the end of the day that's what counts and what everyone remembers. I hear someone mention Barca but forget that Barca simply rely on the world's best player, and a couple others in the elite bracket but don't have much more else. I know which of these teams I'd rather have. To digress a little, I was in a conversation with a Barca fan and a RM fan and the old argument of 'whose the greatest' came up. After a lot of going around in circles, I simply said Messi is the better player and Ronaldo benefits from having the better team and that made sense to both. Whilst Barca have been lowballing despite wanting to get their midfield to world class shape and have been all over the place in doing so, RM have been building the greatest team in Europe and in the process have had some players discontented. The inevitable. But guess what? Those players deemed not 'good enough' would be moved on. James readily comes to mind. The ones goodd enough but who aren't getting the required play time, the manager will have to manage. There's a reason why he's called the manager and there is bigger reason why he's paid big manager bucks. Look at the Isco situation for example, a classic example of how a top manager has been able to convince the lad that he has a place. Thankfully we have at least 2 factors that would work in our favour should we sign Alexis and this problem arise. Number 1, Pep takes decisions mainly based on performance and the need to implement his style of play. Politics hardly ever comes to play and he doesn't mind benching the most influential of players as he has shown over and over again. Add to that the fact that Sanchez is not likely going to be with us for much much longer because of age, you'd agree with me that it's not so much of a problem some are making it out to be.
