Alphonso Davies

"Manchester City and Real Madrid are on red alert as Bayern Munich’s contract renegotiations with Alphonso Davies have stalled.

As things stand, both club and player are still some distance away from an agreement. The Canadian is open to staying but no deal has yet been signed off by him and his camp.

Sources state that Real Madrid will be first in line to make an offer, but Manchester City have held interest previously and could be tempted to make a move if the price represents a good deal for all parties.

Even with only one year left on his contract, Davies would command a hefty fee given his status as one of the world’s pre-eminent players in his position.

This season he has started in all their Champions League group stage matches, but has endured a wobble in the Bundesliga of late.

He suffered a torrid time in the devastating 5-1 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt at the weekend and failed to start in the two league games prior to that."

Sounds like he needs a fresh start, but word is he already had an agreement to move to Real in 2025 on a free. It sounds like Bayern are aware of this, so want him to sign an extension, or they'll put him up for auction next summer.

Both him & Walker in our team would be fuckin insane!

Falls into the 'good on FIFA so massively overrated' category for me. I've not seen many full backs look as desperate as he did trying to keep a lid on Bernardo Silva last season. Good going forward but not good enough to break the bank and change our system to cover his deficiencies.

Didn’t Bernardo end his career last year?
Bernado is one of the best dribblers in world football, the close control dribbling style is devasting and deadly. Look how Messi has destroyed everyone with it. So what is so bad about being destroyed by Bernado?
Gvardiol and Rodri both rinsed by Messi and we still bought them.
Bernado rinsed Yaya, Sane, D.Silva. Matter of fact, he rinsed us in that UCL match that made us buy him or did you forget???????
He has rinsed world class teams. Bernado is a MONSTER DRIBBLER, He destroys teams, WORLD CLASS TEAMS. He can embarrass anyone or any player and that is a fact!!!!

This guy is fantastic and improves us now. Unobtainable in my opinion, but the sort of player we should be targeting.
However we all know we'll go for someone who may become good in 18 months.
Now, when they come off it's fantastic, but the reality is truth is they often fail.

One thing the Haaland transfer should have taught us was top players make a massive difference.

The type of signings that may or may not become good in 12-18 months works when you already have a strong squad with quality depth and there is no immediate need for new players to perform right away. Looking at the squad depth today and how we have played this season, I think we need players that can come in and deliver from day 1.
I'm not entirely convinced Davies is a world class LB (yet) and think he might be slightly overrated by many based on being fast on fifa, but he is undoubtedly a quality player that would contribute from day 1 and still young with potential to improve.

With that said, in my opinion Gvardiol/Ake as LB alternatives is not the teams biggest issue right now. CM/DM, winger or even RB since Walker has looked a bit off lately is more urgent concerns in the squad, at least for me. Just look at our bench alternatives during the last month, we've barely had any attacking options on there at all. But I obviously think Davies would be a quality signing as well and it would also allow Gvardiol to move in as CB!

I agree with all that.
Never played fifa (I had a binatone when I was a kid!!!) but I get your point.
Walker has been poor and seems to have lost a bit of pace. When that’s his main strength then it becomes a bigger problem.
Davies looks great going forward and (dare I say it) looks like the player we thought Mendy was going to be, giving us width in the final third.
