Agree with all that. But from the footage, I don't agree he was neutralised, or that the situation was under control. Sorry.

That is my honest and completely apolitical, secular, non-racial, culture-free view, on the incident as I see it.

And that's fine. We're looking at the same footage and I think we're both giving our view of it in good faith. We can just agree to disagree on that.

Do people seriously thinks those that were outraged by the boot and stamp on the head didn’t realise there was a fight with the police moments before?

This footage didn’t change much for me, it was as expected- they’re scum and deserve jail.

That doesn’t justify the boot and stamp the police guy did when he was on the ground, facing down. IMO.
It is really easy to sit in your ivory tower and pass judgement. The officer had received multiple blows to the head from two people and put in a choke hold, also witnessing two female colleagues being seriously assaulted and you expect him to remain calm and level headed. He is a human being, not a machine. It is too idealistic to expect someone not to react.
He will wish he hadn’t because he may be prosecuted and lose his job and even liberty. The baying mob won’t accept anything less and the spineless authorities are frequently running scared of upsetting that community.

Speaking as a lefty liberal, hummus/lentil eating, sandal wearing whatever

They deserved everything they got. Police officer that did the kick and stamp should probably get some kind of punishment I suppose, but it should be a token one.
His punishment should be an hour in a darkened room with a lefty liberal hummus/lentil eating, sandal wearing type to point out the error of his ways and return him to the path of righteousness

I can respect that opinion.

If the officer ends up losing his job (plus police pension, etc.) i imagine police forces up & down the county will have collections for him. And what about go-fund-me on his behalf, considering there's one for anyone who gets lost on holiday and other dubious causes (or does GFM not allow its site to be used in cases where there are potential criminal charges?)

Some of my family in Manc were in the police and took a beating or three over the years, yet the stamp on the head still looks to me like the officer lost it in his rage and I reckon regretted it within half an hour (or at least regretted it being filmed.) Most everyone's felt the red mist come down but does that extend to those in uniform? Whether or not he gets dismissed and charged will depend on weighing up the danger he and his colleagues were in vs. the extra force he used.

That aside, Is it ok for a copper to boot and stamp someone in the head laying faced down on the ground - some will say based on the melee before hand yes, some will say no.
It’s a matter of opinion really.

Ordinarily no and I'm sure the officer involved would say the same.

However he was near knocked out and unsteady on his feet.

His mitigation will be he was concussed, not thinking straight, concerned for his and other officers safety, etc.
